D&D 5E 5e CB's Stonefast OOC -- COMPLETE

I know the question isn't directed at me, but I'm going to say I love how you think about this. Whichever way you go, it's cool to see the story develop. I think I haven't been as responsive to your Guran's clerical curiosity as I might have been -- I'll work at that a little more in the future.

As a justification for the Magic initiate feat, though, I think it's brilliant, and the idea of a clericy-religious rogue is one of the great things that I think 5e allows (and encourages). The fact that you can do it without cleric levels is all the better. (And, in reverse, Spec has rogue like qualities as well.)

Short reply: certainly, tuxgeo, you may select either a level in Cleric or Magic Initiate, your choice. The Acolyte background coupled with Guran's musings and observations support the direction you want to take. Alternately, a level in Rogue or Fighter would work as well.

In reality, I probably wouldn't balk at even as wonky a progression as druid or barbarian. I might, were this a long term tabletop game, but it's PbP with an expiration date and we're all here to explore. I really was serious when I said anything in the PHB is available.

Further musings:
(1) Guran was already bossy enough to Fulgrim about clearing the webbing off the spider treasure, so I'm not going to have Guran be the one to declare a rest IC this time. If anyone else wants to narrate that, feel free. CB was saying that learning about the sticky, coiled rope would take a rest and attunement, so that's another reason we might want to do so.
(2) Rogue features: I have ignored Guran's "Second-Story Work" ability, which allows him to add his DEX modifier to a running jump. At the 5-foot-wide pit trap, he could have crashed into the far wall, but I ignored that. Given that track record, I'm not sure I would remember to apply Uncanny Dodge if Guran ever gets it.

Kobold Stew, do you want to design a cleric (attack) spell? I don't know that I'd allow it as I think the game designers made a conscious decision to exclude those types of spells from the cleric list, but I'm willing to have the conversation.

Clerics have attack spells, they just don't have attack cantrips that require a spell attack roll (they're all save based, or possibly it's save based as the only one I can recall off the top of my head is Sacred Flame). Just clarifying.

Thx, FF. EDIT: I'm out of pocket and posting on the fly, so my phrasing was inelegant, but hopefully good enough to get my question across.

Let me know, T.

Don't get wet in the flooding in South Carolina. (The Gamecocks are having to play their "home game" against LSU at Baton Rouge, right?)

I find, on searching back, that Guran had picked up a coin pouch in post #577, but I failed to add the 10 GP, 25 SP, and 40 CP to his character sheet. I'll include that when I upgrade him to 4th level.

Thanks -- I don't think a different attack cantrip s right for Spec at this point, though I did play with it. It was just an observation that there was a choice-that-was-actually-not-a-choice in the PHB I hadn't clued to previously.

The Wis bonus is cool, but I am still considering Dung delver or alert, both of which I think I can make fit spec.

The question of the attack can rip does bring up a mini-rant in my head about the absence of the "laser cleric" build in 5e -- this was something I pushed hard for (I feel) during the play test, but just in the end found no traction.
