D&D 5E (2014) 5e CB's Stonefast OOC -- COMPLETE

And now, reflecting back in time to the end of September, here's my latest attempt to keep the pot boiling:

. . . and all of us Stonefasteners who want to be accepted into your OotA game will have to roll up gnomes named 'Boddynock,' right? :)

"How much rock would a Rock Gnome mock if a Rock Gnome could gnock Rome?"
-- Killfrid of Boddynock
(. . . yes, I haven't reread Scott in years)

Good Lord. It's officially a thing. There will be no living with Forged Fury.

In other news, I just treated myself to all twelve of Jared Blando's HQ maps for OotA. That was fun. :) And it's nice to be able to support an artist, too.

I'm fine with Roscoe having the ring. I think Spec or Guran should have the rope.

I had a busy weekend, I still haven't picked out my new cantrip. I will go with Absorb Elements and Maximilian's Earthy Grasp for my new spells. I need to update my prepared spells as well. The bump in level and intelligence means I get to prepare two more spells, so I'll probably go with the two I just learned. I'll probably swap something else out for Magic Missile. Probably Thunderwave, which I took as a flavor spell based on Fulgrim's history.

I think Guran should not have the rope (IC) because he was ineffective against the giant spider. Since Spec fought the spider and has the rope, let Spec keep it.

Partly, also, I'm wondering what other treasure we might find. I was impressed by the newfound long box containing coins. Now I wonder what else we've missed by not searching carefully. Maybe there's a potion somewhere that will de-sticy-ify the lid on that chest that we left with a dagger stuck to the top of it.

We might have missed things. That's a good point (and speaking of points -- I did know where Spec's dagger was).

He can happily use the rope (and it would become his main weapon, rather than his recently-borrowed replacement dagger), if no one else wants it. Fun.

On a topic largely unrelated to the things we have been discussing: it now appears that Stonefast is a lot bigger than I had been expecting. At the rate we're going through it, it now looks as though we won't be done before November.

Depending on how much more dungeon we have yet to explore, it could conceivably offer the party an opportunity to advance to 5th character level. I had not been expecting that; but it might be the case that we would have to depart from the primary level of the dungeon -- going up into the ceiling after the kobolds, or down the stairs in the sarcophagus room -- in order to accomplish such a character level-up.

And looking past Stonefast: the "Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide" will be released to the general public on November 3rd. Might that be an allowed resource in a potential OotA game?

I've offered choices about direction to take inside Stonefast, but no one has actively nibbled. That's fine; I recently began adjusting my DM plans to mold them to the direction the characters choose (as it should be). Having already settled on my longterm game plan (see the discussion here in the OOC on previous recent pages), however, I have zero intention of letting this adventure linger unnecessarily. If need be, I will short circuit and/or alter certain elements in favor of speeding along the action.

You'll recall that I've already mentioned a while back that 5th level is a possibility. If I'm truthful, I would prefer for that not to occur, because it will mean that the game has gone longer than anticipated. If, however, you do hit 5th level, then, most emphatically, NO, absent my owning a copy of SCAG, I will not be entertaining material from that source. Not for this game at least. I dislike having to adjudicate source material I don't own, and it doesn't currently look likely that WotC will produce a free .pdf containing any portion at all of SCAG. If a free Player's Guide for OotA were to be published, I'd permit that. Ditto for a free .pdf of (parts of) SCAG.

I do not currently plan to purchase SCAG. If that changes (and it might), I'll say so here. One of the hazards of permitting stuff like SCAG is that players who don't make such a purchase may wind up differently abled when compared to players with the funds to buy supplements. It's important to me that each player have the same set of resources on which to draw so that no one is made to feel less-than.

Well, now I'm curious. Who here is thinking they're going to purchase the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide sourcebook? I assumed none of you would, but maybe that's erroneous.
