D&D 5E 5e CB's Stonefast OOC -- COMPLETE

I was going to read some reviews of SCAG once it comes out. I wanted to get a better notion about the flavor of some of the variants that they offer -- if those are actual variants.

I don't need any such variants, of course: I've done so little actual playing that I'm set for years using just the PHB. It's not as though I'm in any danger of running out of material that I haven't used before in that book, after all.

We've been spoiled on the Table of Contents already (thanks to the "Extra Life" event). That thread is the source of my thinking they might offer variants.

With 50 pages of crunch, it probably will not all appear in a pdf document. The odds are I will pick it up eventually, as a result; but I'm not burning for it.

I hadn't envisioned purchasing SCAG, but tuxgeo's question prompted me to want to look into it. I started reading a review yesterday but abandoned it because work imposed (as work is wont to do). I'll take a better look this weekend and next week.

By the layout of the map, I appear to still be in the probable AoE of that spell. I take it I can't get further back and still mage hand? I'm also a bit confused about whether the hand is going to trigger the trap if the door is still locked.

If I can't get out of the way, I'll be using Absorb Elements as a reaction if I get hit by the spell.

I needed to put Fulgrim somewhere so I guessed. It's up to you to let me know what grid square you want for him. Mage hand works up to 30 feet. The blast radius for ice storm is 20 feet. Fulgrim knows the door is still locked.

As to whether mage hand will trigger the trap if the door is still locked, you're not confused. You just don't *know.* That's a natural result flowing from the encounter.

If you want to investigate more before taking concrete action, let me know. I'm not sure there's additional discoverable information, but you guys are smart and creative, so I won't discount the possibility that you could do or ask something pertinent.

I was wondering how much force a mage hand can apply ... if doors are closed but trapped, every mage hand can trigger a trap from a safe distance unless there is a heavy iron door knob. Not sure if a mage hand can open a door. I think the top it can do is rotate the knob but not pull the heavy oak door for the trap to trigger. I guess that the mage hand is able to pull up the lid of a small chest but it is up to the DM to decide about a heavy door.

We're fixing to find out. :)

I'm at a conference today and tomorrow, and have a committee meeting tonight. I'll do a post from the hotel tonight. Maybe at lunch, but unlikely b/c of an informal luncheon obligation?
