D&D 5E Rolled character stats higher than point buy?

Are you asking for more details about my style of play? I've offered before to provide breakdowns of some recent adventures and encounters, but I don't want to do so without an invitation because frankly hearing the details of other people's games tends to be boring.

But in order for that to work, you have to stop looking for opportunities to take offense at "covert insults" which aren't being offered.

What do you want?

Edit: incidentally, if you've read that whole thread I linked to, you've read way more of it than I have. I've read the first page, and the posts that I referred you to as important were #1 and #5, although IIRC I thought #9 had a good point about Ravenloft too. I have no idea why you felt compelled to read the whole thing when every page you read was apparently making your blood boil.

For what it's worth, *I'm* asking. Sounds like an interesting story.

But it wouldn't really be to prove any kind of point, as I don't specifically disagree with you here, and I don't hate the CaW/CaS distinction. I'm just curious.

A question for people in the rolls are great crowd - if you do a standard 4d6 drop lowest you have (roughly) a 16% chance of rolling a 6 or lower. Do you just ignore the abysmal stat? Reroll? Replace it with an 8?

If I were running a game with someone with that low of a stat, they would be severely handicapped. For reference, I would say that Mongo from Blazing Saddles probably had an 8 intelligence. An 8 is about as low as you can go and still be slow/functional as far as intelligence goes.

I think for the next 5e campaign I run, I'm just going to let my players pick their stats. As long as they don't go higher than 15 (pre-modifiers). That way they still have room to grow, and meaningful decision points, as they gain ASIs. Then again, maybe I won't even saddle them with that limit.

Intelligence is the only low stat I won't play. Anything else I'll play as low as it goes.

Rolls below 8 are great and one of my favorite parts of rolled stats.

If I'm powergaming, it often goes in Str, Cha, or Wis. I don't usually put it in Int because I normally can't stand to role play stupidity, but for certain kinds of e.g. barbarians I'd do it.

If you want to roll up a few sets of stats we can discuss what you can do with them from a powergaming standpoint, modulo my allergy to low Int. The "3d6 in order" thread a few months ago was great fun.

There is a long thread about what 5 Int means, so I'd say your assertion here is hardly universal.

But for the record: I think claiming Mongo is 8 Int, considering 8 is just one step below decidedly average, is completely absurd.

Stats below 8 are not nearly as catastrophic as you're claiming.

Yeah. Mongo would be a good candidate for a 5.
