FR is default 5e like GH was default 3e. Pretty much not in anything but name. The general release products had between very little and no references to GH in them in 3e. Now, I've looked at the recent Volo excerpts, and if the rest of that book is like those excerpts, then the only thing FR about it is the name Volo. That would still be general release in my eyes. For something to be setting, it has to have setting fluff in it like the Sword Coast release.

It exists in the FR and is well known.

It's made up. We're all free to do whatever we like with it. My point being that any RPG supplement can provide sufficient material for any game.

But I suppose that is beside the point...your mind is made up about it. I just think the decisions you've made are more limiting than what WotC is producing.

Hey Maxperson,

I get that you hate FR. I get it. I'm not really a fan of it, either. So what setting, if any, would you prefer/accept 5e books to use as a framework?

If that's an acceptable excuse to not create general content, it's also an acceptable excuse to not create rules in the first place. Every core rule is made up and we're free to do what we like with it.

The "It's made up. We're free to do what we like with it." doesn't pass the smell test.

Hey @Maxperson,

It's the setting I run about 80% of my campaigns in. I just want setting content and general content that I can apply to my other campaigns as well. "Hey look guys, it's Waterdeep in yet another non-FR world." doesn't fly.

Sure, for movies and toys and the like. I'm looking forwards to those. As it is, though, they are releasing products faster than I keep up with, and most of the people I play with, who are smart people, need serious help with the complexities of the character creation process after playing for two years.
ok

I maintain that it is a myth that the release is slow (they are releasing a new book every four months!),
um, ok. I guess "slow" is a subjective term, so, yeah, ok.
The amount of content coming out is vastly "slower" than PF or was for 3E. Good/bad/whatever; it simply is.

or that this is a simple game: it is very complex.
RPGs are complex. But, again, this is a subjective term. Since you have directed this statement at me I'm going to infer that you are referencing my prior comment. PF is every bit as "complex" plus it has touch AC. (It also has other things). Is that a winning move for PF? (hint: no; it is just something different) But 5E can be (and is!!!) "complex" and it still be relatively less complex than other games. Good/bad/whatever; it simply is.

Some might prefer loads more product pr more complex...but hardly the majority.
Majority of who?
Maybe with more content the fan base would triple. You can't prove this is false.
It is probably true that the majority of current players are either (a) opposed to more content or (b) completely agnostic on the topic. But simply saying that the majority of people currently doing a thing like that thing the way it is doesn't really add any insight.

I don't remotely believe that too many supplements hurt sales.
I do believe that poor quality supplements and/or supplements that don't consider poor interactions add a non-zero negative weight on the gaming community perception of a system.
Time is the real enemy.
It is easy to look at the increasing stack of supplements and blame that for the concurrent decline caused by age.
