D&D General Improved Treasure Card Maker for the Magic Set Editor (MSE)

I have just uploaded Improved Treasure Card Maker for the Magic Set Editor (MSE) to the resource area.

I've created a new treasure card maker using the Magic Set Editor. This set is very customizable and is an improvement on the older treasure card maker I original posted.
There is an image slot for a picture of the treasure.
There are text fields for the name and description of the treasure. There are drop down fields for rarity and type of treasure, as well as attunement requirements. There are additional text fields for the weight and value of the treasure. And lastly, there are text fields for the illustrator and source for the treasure (in those cases that the description in rules were simply too long to provide in the space).

The style options allow for the attunement, value and weight to be hidden from the card, if you so desire, while keeping the data in your database for sorting and searching.

The style comes with 8 full color backgrounds and 20 textured backgrounds you can colorize. The style also enables you to choose the vibrancy of the textures and colors. The frame also comes in 8 choices. And there are 14 different font choices.

So, lots of options – you will find something in here that suits your style, and no two treasure card sets will be the same.

There is an edit function available to identify the fields on the card until you are used to the format.

Unfortunately, this download is NOT compatible with my older treasure card maker.

[Update 2017-04-17 -- Large Style added]

New style has been added to the download. The new large format prints treasure cards in 5" x 3.5" size, double the standard magic/treasure card size.

There are five different border/frame formats for your preference. You may add your own image of the treasure items and the image will cover the entire card, fading into the background behind the text or behind the frames. The stained glass frame is translucent, so images are seen through the glass frame.

The text box size is selectable, ranging from Large (75% of the card) to none (which provides only a treasure characteristics when there are no details needed or necessary). With the larger card size, more space is available for longer description if needed. Text auto scales as it is added to the text box.

You can find the file here in the downloads section. Please use this thread for comments.

Below are some sample cards made using this template.

NEW CARDS

Hey pdzoch....I have used almost all of your templates and modified most of them.|
Your older treasure cards were great but I had to adjust some text boxes to make room for text and game information.

These (NEWER) cards seem to exacerbate the problem further. I can barely fit the game info on the cards. Most magic items require 2 or 3 paragraphs. This sample here I made shows how I was able to use your options (with a modified text box) to include important info. Even still there is a lot of wasted space in the margins that is desperately needed for a lot of items. Making the option for the text to autoscale is also a lifesaver. Regardless thanks for sharing the new cards even if I think they are a step backwards.a

shamurai7, Just now saw your note, so I apologize for not responding sooner. Establishing the right amount of text box size is a bit of a challenge for magic items. Some items have very simple rules explanations, while others have very complex rules explanations. Making a one size fits all is extremely challenging. I decided that the text box on the card would provide a "cliff note" version of applicable rules and effects, while the rulebook would still be the place for the comprehensive explanation of complex magic items.

I do intent to add a style to this template that looks like to older style (parchment and smaller image). I do not think I would retain the sword and dragon frames as they do consume valuable real estate on the card.

I have considered making "Epic sized" magic cards especially for artifacts and complex magic item. This card set would be the same size as my Monster and NPC Data cards template (5x8). Such a card size would make no sense for simple potions, but would be ideal for complex magic items, such as the Wand of Orcus. Thoughts?

That's a good idea. They cards are very nice as are, but a larger card for reference might be nice.

Honestly now that you mention it.......the MTG planechase cards are a very good format for items. Fitting swords, bows, and staffs into a square shaped box is nigh impossible. P{lanechase cards have adequate text space and a long rectangular art box.

I'll see if I can make that format work. That will put four to a standard sheet but it will require reorienting the cards for printing, something that MSE is a bit fickle about. I'll put it in the queue.

o.k. I can make the planechase format work. I'd like to redesign the framing. Do we really want so much space for the image? I was thinking of reducing the image box to make more room for text data. Also, do we want a horizontal or vertical format?

It's a tough call...I think vertical might be best (after a lot of situational forethought)
Have you seen the large Archenemy magic cards?
The text over the faded artwork looks great and you could make a nice large text box without diminishing the art value so much.
In their case though the frame still eats up a lot of valuable text real estate.
A thin frame on the bottom of the card to a larger, more decorative frame around the art would look aesthetic without hurting the functionality.

An option for text box size would be great. One that's ~ 50% of the card and one that's ~30% for small descriptions.

o.k. Here is a draft version of a larger format card. Design is just a draft concept to help frame the fields of the card. Thoughts?
