D&D 5E Nonstandard Races You Love And Want Back

Kenku- I had a Kenku PC in a game I ran once. I re-fluffed them quite a bit (this being a homebrew campaign based on Greek mythology). They were really neat and I'd love to see them get a bit more attention; bird-men without having to worry about flying.
They're not gone; they are in Volo's Guide to Monsters.

While I did not have all the fancy races back in my days the only one they really added was the Kender yes I am old and was around during the Dragon Lance Era I laugh at your forgotten realms. To be clear I do not want the halfling wannabes back.

I seem to recall a not-too-recent 3PP item that described the Knome - a cross between Kender and Gnomes.

Talk about the stuff of nightmares.

I'm more into culling races.

Keep the humans.

If you want a little variety, then you can add-

Pointy-eared annoying humans (elves).

Not enough?

How about bearded drinking humans with bad Scottish accents (dwarves).

I suppose we could also have short, lazy humans (halflings).

Maybe some half-humans.

And under no circumstances can we allow those gnomes in. Can't trust 'em.

I'll never understand why people allow/like Halflings over gnomes. They are literally the most boring thing in DnD! Worse than humans!

Bah!

:D

Anyway:

Shadar-kai. What QuietBrowser said. They are one of my favorite races.

Gnolls. Also what QB said, basically.

Vrylocka: I'm a sucker for a race with a story from a fairy tale.

Satyrs/Fauns. Of both sexes. Don't @ me.

Wilden. Dude, I loved these guys. More like this. Anthropomorphic Embodiments of nature? Yes!

Hengeyokai. Do I even need to explain?

Centaur. Obviously.

Pixies/Sprites. I've seen some good ones, here and elsewhere, but I want to see official takes. As long as they don't Kenku them up.

Honestly just give me all of em.

Eh, I'd like to see some of the races culled out a bit. When you get too many, it really just becomes a way to specialize your character class by choosing the race that offers the best benefits rather than the race actually being interesting (or having interesting lore tied to it). The "Goliath" race is a good example to me; like, they're more or less just humans that are better optimized for martial classes for people that don't want to play half-orcs. It's a mechanically interesting option, but that's about it.

I mean...if you completely ignore everything they are, I guess.

But actually, no, they aren't that at all.

They're already in. The I see a lot of the kender in the 5e halfling. I could easily use lightfoot halfling as a kender and call it a day.

So i come from old old school mainly all D&D and 1e

I play a lot of Human; outside that Elf and Half Elf. Just not a fan of playing the small guys like Halfling or dwarf though it be funny to play a Multi class Barbarian/Fighter strength based dual wielding halfling with dual short swords or dagger and name him Tazz.

Now of the new classes for me I really like the Gensai from EE for some reason and Asmair or solid everything else is kind of what ever. Now as a DM I have allowed everything but he Monster races from Volo because they are currently a big part of my custom campaign so that character would probably not survive in town very long.
