D&D 5E Level 10 Character Ideas

My DM is going to be unavailable in a few weeks and one of our players stepped up and said she would run a one-shot for those of us that still want to play. Interested players would need to create a level 10 character using any WOTC 5e material (including Unearthed Arcana articles) and Matt Mercer's DMs Guild offerings (Blood Hunter, Gunslinger and a Bard Archtype). I assume multiclass would be acceptable too.

This is where I'm stumped. I want to stay away from a rogue cuz that is what I play in my regular game. My first thought was monk (maybe something non-standard like a gnome), but I had a lot of fun with a half-orc paladin in a low level campaign before the group fizzled out. I rarely play casters (never really), so that might be fun to step out of my comfort zone.

While I respect the creativity of a lot of the UA stuff, none of it really grabs me be the short and curlies and says "play me!" The Arcane Archer is the probably the most appealing to me.

What would you create for a brand new level 10 character?

It is really MAD, but I would like to try a Monk/Wizard. If starting at level 10, I might go Monk 5 / Wizard 5. I would probably make him a Human or an Elf (not sure which kind). I don't have any particular mechanical reason for thinking this would be cool.

For monk tradition, I would probably go with Open Hand, although I would also be considering Shadow and, just because it is a bit weird, UA Tranquility.

For wizard school and feats/ASIs, I haven't thought enough about it.

My recommendation: Don't play what we suggest. Make a list of the archetypes or inspirations for characters that interest you, sort them by level of interest, take the first one off the list and build a character around it.

When I did that last year for an adventure that needed several related characters, I came of with the following inspirations:
1. Percival de Rolo from Critical Role
2. Lindsey Stirling (youtube violinist)
3. Banner/Hulk or Jekyll/Hyde

I had to make all three in this case, but otherwise I would have used the first one and saved the others for later. So I made the following:
1. A GOO tome warlock. He has a revolver (wand) that doesn't revolve on each shot. Rather each chamber is a different cantrip: Eldritch Blast, Firebolt, Ray of Frost, Shocking Grasp, something else, and a dummy chamber for making people sweat during interrogations.
2. A lore bard
3. A half-orc bear totem barbarian with tavern brawler. He fights without weapons, spending as much time knocking things prone while raging to set up his allies as punching things.

Some of my players have come up with various inspirations:
1. The half-gnoll son of a player's druid from a previous adventure who got in a relationship with a gnoll aasimar NPC (long story). He made an Ancients Paladin with 8 Charisma.
2. A player thought the steam pipes in Zeitgeist would work as inspiration for a character based on Mario. He is making a Fire bender monk that wields a light hammer and has a tinkerer/plumber background.
3. A player has threatened to bring in Guts from Berserk if his current PC ever dies.
4. A player has threatened to bring in a ranger with gnolls as a favored enemy if his current PC ever dies (to play off the half-gnoll paladin).

If the arcane archer interests you I would do the following.
A: play an arcane archer.
B: have fun

Bloodhunter is an interesting beast. It's almost a Darker Ranger reskin. It's a bit fiddly for 5e, and seems like it would be more suited to Pathfinder, but it does offer a lot of customization. Particularly the Mutant subclass. If you want a little more complexity in a class it could be really fun. Also the Order of the Lycan sublass is about the most balanced way of being a Player Lycanthrope that I have seen.

If I had UA options open to me I would go with the Zealot Barbarian. or the Revised Ranger, because those two have piqued my interest the most but I haven't had the chance to play them (or at all lately).

Since Arcane Archer piqued your interest, I say give that a go.
