Important gear question:

The reason I snagged the hobgoblin chainmail is because a chaimail suit is a chainmail shirt with too many bits attached. I assumed it would be possible to do this "fix" fairly easy (I'm pretty desperate for more AC and a suit of medium armor is the way to go at the moment). Would this be, in fact, possible? And can it be done quickly?

Well, Flint is also on the lookout for better (medium) armor, but as a dwarf it's harder to find something his size. [emoji2]

Oh lets see here
[roll0] more hit points.

How do you want to handle prepared spells? Should I track it myself, do you want it on my character sheet after each long rest or some other way?

It can be done, and since you saved the blacksmith, Kining Blondebeard, it can be done in a day and since you helped save her life she'll only charge you one gold. :)

Kidding she will do it for free.
