Blaise smiles as he answers, “It sounds like an exciting evening, madame.

He places a hand on the small of her back as he leads her towards where he left Etienne. Recognizing that they were in the open air, Blaise continued to whisper while speaking in vague terms, “However, the reason you found me as you did was that I hoped to keep a low profile this evening. The man who arranged for the circumstances of our mutual goal is someone that I have a keen interest in understanding and ideally not upsetting. If you simply want to have a conversation like myself, then I’m hopeful that we can accomplish that easily enough without much complication. If you are set on changing the circumstances before the morning, we’ll need quite the plan and somewhere to point the blame away from us. That’s a lot to cover in an evening. Luckily for you, I didn’t set out alone.”

They turn a corner to see Etienne waiting, “Madame Sophie, allow me to introduce my comrade, Etienne. Etienne, it seems fate has given us an ally for our little excursion. Madame Sophie, here, shares a mutual goal. It is possible that we may need to take a few moments to acquaint ourselves with one another and privately discuss our plans for the evening. Would you happen to know of a place where we could talk?”

OOC: I feel like Blaise is a sucker for a pretty face so I don’t think he thinks Sophie is lying or trying to trick him (a flaw that I am sure will bite him someday), but I do think he is trying to listen closely and read her for any insight into her. Maybe a hint towards motivation (does it seem personal) or even if her flirtations are solely calculated or if there’s a real spark of interest there. Would it be possible to roll an insight check for that kind of thing?

GM: Absolutely [MENTION=20005]Matthan[/MENTION], she's certainly hiding something. Why don't you make a DC 19 Insight check?

On a success, you determine whether her motive is personal or professional & whether her flirtations have a spark of genuine interest or are solely calculated.

On a great success (24+), you also learn one of your choice about her: background, bond, flaw, ideal, good fortunes, mixed fortunes, or ill fortunes.

On a failure, you can't decipher Sophie, but manage to keep your questions/reading of her face covert.

On a terrible failure (14 or less), she notices you probing, and you must choose one:
  • Sophie politely takes her leave, possibly working at cross-purposes to you later.
  • Sophie claims to have a patsy taken care of...and unbeknownst to you it's one of your fellow PCs or a NPC allied with the party.
  • Sophie discretely learns one thing of the DM's choosing about Blaise: background, bond, flaw, ideal, good fortunes, mixed fortunes, or ill fortunes.
  • Sophie has been offended by Blaise personally at some point in the past, possibly when she assumed a different guise, possibly as a jilted lover. Describe the circumstances of the offense? She's out to embarrass Blaise personally.

” It is possible that we may need to take a few moments to acquaint ourselves with one another and privately discuss our plans for the evening. Would you happen to know of a place where we could talk?”

Etienne remembers a ruin that miraculously still stands up and is still unoccupied, a thousand feet to to east. He didn't perform a thorough search yesterday but it may be fine. Hope there are no ghosts.

"I'll lead you to a place. Not a palace, little more than an hovel. it was sacked but it still standing. Souvenir from Our gracious Majesty's troops occupation back in 1703."

"Madame Sophie, you came here with a fellow friend of yours. Do you want her to follow us to my meeting place ?"

OOC: Not going up to stalk the other girl, Etienne kept an eye on her... just in case she tried to ambush his fellow countryman... Any chance he once met them years ago when he was in the Navy ?

Jacques eyed the woman currently gorging herself on baguettes curiously. Looking away swiftly as to not stare, Jacques leaned in very close to Ulsta and asked, "Who is this mademoiselle?"

[SECTION]With tongue firmly planted in her cheek, the Dutch dwarven proprietress raises her brows at Jacques. "Oh her? Be thankful you've found her in a pleasant mood. She has a bad reputation, this one. Fair, but don't cross her. A real pirate's pirate, and I mean that quite literally, meneer (Mr) Jacques. Blackbeard's own daughter. Wanted twice over by the Viceroyalty of New Spain. Bestowed with the Devil's own luck." Ulsta tops off everyone's ales, before resting the pitcher on her hip with a wry smile, "That there is Katerina del Corazón. And she owes me 5 florions, shilling, ecús, or reales (silvers), take her pick."[/SECTION]

[section]Sophie Trémiere remains as courteous as she does inscrutable. "Un plaisir Monsieur," she gives a nod to Etienne and a slight bend of her knees, the sort of informal curtsy that proper ladies used in the Caribbean. "Oh, that wasn't my friend, Monsieur. Simply a woman on her way to mass and our paths chanced to cross," she adds in a reassuring tone, catching the way Etienne's eyes followed the other woman into the church.

Motioning for Etienne to lead them to a private spot, Sophie makes small talk, "I was always under the impression that the pirates of Nassau were predominantly English. Yet, for a time when our nation is supposed to be at war with the English, I am surprised to find this port so full of my countrymen." A dirty ditch that would normally lead a lady to seek a gentleman's hand is spryly leapt over, the hint of Sophie's rapier underneath her green dress momentarily visible.

"Oui, this will do," she says upon reaching the hovel with Etienne in the lead. "There are nine Spanish Navy-men set to be hung in public square tomorrow morning, as you know. They are alleged to have turned on Captain Read Wallace of the Winchelsea once they'd surrendered to him." It's clear she isn't buying the story. "I need information these men have, about a new ministry forming in the Spanish Navy...and I'd rather not have to contract the services of a voodoo priestess to speak with their remains..."[/section]

Jacques rummages underneath the apron and produces a louis d'or. He then leans back in to whisper, "For this round and the next. Is there anything else your require of me Madem?" Placing the louis d'or into Ulsta's hand.

OOC: Ulsta should be aware of his maimed throat and understanding of his need to be so close to communicate in the rowdy tavern.

Jacques eyed Katarina with a bit of hesitation, before bringing himself to walk over to femme fatal and leaning in close and whispering, "Only temporarily mademoiselle. Peut-être pourrions-nous préparer ensemble?"

OOC: Translation: Perhaps we could cook together sometime?
