D&D 5E Human Revenant question

Do revenants rot, or otherwise look not normal? The MM ones do but the MM one regen 10 HP a round. The PC version is obviously different and weaker. There needs to be far more info given about these things. Like can a revenant have kids or get someone pregnant? Can a revenant try to ignore its purpose for a while? My revenant is working through his Godess so he's doing her work, not just his own personal goal or vendetta.

It's not meant for players to create a new character, it's designed for a DM and player to collaborate and get a dead PC back into the game, with a limited duration. It's rough around the edges, because the DM can easily figure out any relevant tweaks or whatever in relation to the campaign at hand.
(I've used the Revenant in 4e, and also 5e, when a PC died and his player was keen to have him return to help complete the mission).

That is totally untrue. It does not say it is specifically meant for a older PC to use only. No where does it say that ONLY a established PC can use it.

Do Revenants need to eat, sleep, drink and breathe? Like will it adversely affect them if they dont do those things? Sure they can't die permanently but could a revenant be starved to death? Drown? Die from lack of sleep or water and then have to wait 24 hours to come back?

You have many questions. The revenent race was published in a UA article. it is playtest material, not published material. There are no official answers to these questions. If your DM is allowing the use of this playtest material in your groups campaign, then the two of you can work out these details together.

For my game Revenants are reanimated corpses. They would not have to eat, but at first they might try because they are used to it, but they would gain no satisfaction from doing so. They would not be fertile, and would rot. They would need to breath to speak, but not to survive. They would not need sleep, but would still need to long rest to regain class abilities that replenish from long rests.

But like I said, that's for my game.

Revenants are actually NOT undead as we know them to be anyway. Their type does NOT become Undead. As per Sage Advice answer. They are not immune to poison for example. So I guess PC version Revenants are more like the Crow than some undead thing back for revenge. That IS an official answer.

Fair enough. How goes you quest to get those other questions answered?

I doubt they will ever be answered. I think the Sage Advice guys are past Revenants. Maybe when it's October again lol. I think they did say that they don't need to eat or sleep or any of that. I wonder what their type is then if not Undead? I guess you're just whatever type most PCs are with some benefits.

I wonder if they were afraid of making the type Undead because of potentially having odd interactions with class abilities like Turn Undead. Probably just playing it safe.
