D&D 5E (2014) When do you think the revised fighter will be released?

Probably with 6th edition.

As far as criticisms of the fighter are concerned, "weak" is rarely ever one of them.

It's really, really not.

There is no indication, at all, in any way, that the fighter is up for "fixing". Surveys showed extremely high satisfaction with the fighter. Sorceror and Warlock and Monk are all light years ahead of fighter on the list. You will never, ever see the fighter "fixed" in this edition I suspect.

What is it that bothers you so much about the fighter? The idea that it's a weak class seems...unusual to me, to say the least. They're pretty darn powerful in this edition in my experience.

At my table the fighter (aside from EK which we have not seen) is clearly surpassed by the Paladin and Barbarian in play. But IMO the bigger issue is that Barbarians and Paladins are very interesting classes to play both mechanically and RP wise, compared to the somewhat broad nature of fighters where the subclasses really dont help build a story or sense of character.

The mechanics don't really make fighters. You could have a group full of battlemaster fighters and give each one a very different flavour just through stats, equipment, background, manoeuvres and personality.

The sense that they are weak is illusory because they don't have nova capabilities. Much of the nova damage is often wasted though and the other classes can't do it often.

Someone on here proposed superior manoeuvres that cost two dice and have beefier effects but they'd need to be limited as not every subclass uses them.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up seeing an expansion of the maneuver list — similar to how the Warlockks invocations have been looked at in UA — over time (the list of EK spells expanding over time as the Wizard spell list grows larger) and more new feats that the Fighter’s list of ASIs can better take advantage of.

As people have noted, the Fighter isn't "weak" by most definitions. What are the issues that you were having with it?

Often when people are finding Fighters weak, it turns out that their group's playstyle involves only a few, big fights a day. That sequence is going to push the power of the long-rest classes like most spellcasters up, and push the short-rest-based classes like Fighter down.

The main criticism of the Fighter is that while it can hold its own in combat, it lacks much to do in the other two pillars

The fighter isn't weak, the first 2-6 levels are incredibly popular multiclass targets IMCs

I haven't heard anything about a fighter revision, and would be surprised if I did.

The sorcerer needs a revision MUCH more urgently anyway.

Do you use feats?

Barbs and Palas come with many toys built-in, while the Battlemaster gains things that enable feats.

The Eldritch Knight is very powerful. Simply spend all your slots on Shield and you have mean lean tanking machine right there that's just as straight-forward as the Champion, only much more powerful.
