And to answer the question of why he doesn't become a god...

Taxes. Gods pay a higher tax bracket and the dude's got dungeons full of expensive traps all across the multiverse.

(That's what worship is all about, it's a tax credit from mortals!)

...I come from a land where the lich is called eh-sir-rock?
......
Sounds like a song From Lead Zip Land
"I come from a land of lich and stone!".

Ah, ah,
We come to the land of the lich and stone,
> To the midday sun where the hot air blow.
The hammer of the gods
Will drive our henchmen to new lands,
To fight the minions, singing and crying:
Acererack, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing rapier,
Our only goal will be the western dungeon.
Ah, ah,
We come to the land of the lich and stone,
> To the midday sun where the hot air blow.
How bloody hot your jungles so green,
Can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of loot.
We are your overlords.
On we sweep with threshing rapier,
Our only goal will be the western dungeon.
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day
Despite of all your losing.

I'll lay down the guitar tracks for this.

Well, I guess being a god has its obligations and problems. I don't believe it's that easy. Worshippers, rival deities, domains/portfolios, Lord Ao/Zen-Oh-sama nagging you about your work...
If you can have the power of a god, without being a god, that could be actually better, depending on what you want ^^
