D&D 5E Pedantic pet peeves

I proudly commit all the grammatical sins mentioned in this thread. But for me, 'ass' will always be a donkey.

As for gaming, I can live with most things, but can only ask that players accept the DM's rulings and try to remember their character sheets.

The 1-3 and 3-9?

I always did those as d6 rolls, counting 4s as 1s, 5s as 2s, and 6s as 3s.

Not just those. It takes a moment (at least for me) to figure out one way to implement each one and whether there might be other ways. Just for added fun, it jumps around between d4s and d6s.

1d3, 1d4, 1d6, 1d6, 1d6+1, 2d4, 2d4+1 (or 3d3), 2d6, 3d4, 2d6+1, 3d4+1, 4d4, 4d4+1, 5d4, 6d4, 5d6, 8d4 (or 6d5+2 or 4d7+4 or 2d13+6:))

Makes 2-5 seem sort of tame.

In D&D, if there is an ecosystem, there is an elf subrace to fit it. Dwarves and gnomes also have a few subraces as well, but not so many as the elves. Not so with the other sentient races.

I know in FRPGs, RW science gets ignored as is convenient, but this kind of “speciation” typically happens more slowly in longer-lived species. We should expect more variety in humans, orcs, goblins, etc. than elves, dwarves and gnomes. So this is turning Darwinist evolution on it’s head.

A pet peeve of mine used to be when people would spell rogue as rouge but now when I see it I just sit there feeling superior.

Shortly after Magic the Gathering turned into a blockbuster hit, a bunch of companies tried to make collectible card games to compete. One of them made that error on a card that made it to print. A gaming magazine gave out mock awards to the various card games out there and the Rouge Specter won for the best card named after makeup.

I suppose that you could argue that elf eco-specialisation represents a hint that not only are individual elves long-lived, but that their species is also extremely venerable. If individual elves live a few thousand years, there is still sufficient time for eco-specialisation if elves have been around a few 100 million years.

Or alternatively, that elf eco-specialisation is not due to evolution via errors in differential reproduction, but is the result of deliberate (or accidental) elf-engineering by magic/science at some point in the past.

People who use the Caduceus instead of the Rod of Asclepius.
It's not a medical symbol!

WHOOSH !

That is the sound of your attempt at humor going over the heads of many of us. I had to Google the difference. I gave you XP for helping to educate me. Thanks

I suppose turning names into verbs, such as Googling, could be a pet peeve of mine. One that I am guilty of doing, so technically I annoy myself. Ugh, how awkward.
