D&D 5E Types of feats you'd like to see in future UA articles and books

I'd like to see some small feat chains.

Obviously we can't have chains on the same scale as 3.X because you can't get nearly as many feats, BUT, I'd like to have options where a character dedicated to a build can advance via taking feats in place of stat-boosts.

Like, take Magic Initiate. Grants 2 cantrips, and 1 1st level spell usable once per long rest.
Add two more feats into a chain
Magic Novice - Prereq: Magic Initiate. You now have two level 1 spell slots and a level 2 spell slot, and know one level 2 spell from the same class you have Magic Initiate for. Your 1st level spell is know a spell known and castable using your slots instead of 1/long rest.
Magic Adept - Prereq: Magic Novice. You now have 3 1st level slots, 2 2nd level slots, and 1 3rd level slot. You gain 1 1st level spell known and 1 3rd level spell known.

These are completely off the top of my head ideas mind you, they need testing and balancing to see if they're worth it, but that's beside the point.

Any way, the most important thing IMO is keeping feats in the power realm of "Worth sacrificing the Stat boost, but not so powerful that they are necessary".

Didn't we actually have that specific feat chain during the playtest? I think I remember being surprised it was dropped.

Weapon feats. I hated the +1 to attack (too boring) but it would be nice to have Feats that rival PM GWM etc.

As far as feat chains go, I'm against them.

The specific category of feat is not what I'm concerned with, rather I'd like to see feats that use a mechanic they came up with in a previous feat UA. That of, if when you have advantage and both dice come up a success, something special happens.

Apart from that, weapon feats that don't add to attack bonus but do open up interesting options or at least allow for additional affects when you do certain combat things.

Spell caster feats because there are so few.

Edit:
And on a personal preference, I'd love to see any feats that have numerical bonuses be tied to either an Ability bonus or the Proficiency bonus. In fact, I'm planning doing this in my game so that feats like Great Weapons Master, Heavy Armor Master, and others like that (that have a numerical effect) change to use Proficiency bonus instead of the arbitrary numbers they are using now.

Coming from the Tome of Battle thread, we were talking about a feat that could represent "stances".

aka you get a list of bonuses but only one at a time, and can switch between those bonuses.

I don't like weapon feats. GWM, PAM, and Sharpshooter are the worst feats in the PHB.

I don't like the idea of feat chains. I also think that feats should be balanced to be much weaker than the +2 ASI, but provide something both mechanically and narratively interesting. Ideally feats should be balanced such that most characters prefer the +2 ASI. This makes them special. In the last 3 campaigns I have been in I don't think I have seen the same feat taken twice. That's about right.

I also quite like the racial feats to give more identity to the races. I'm not sure how many more I would want though.

Inspiring Leader is an example of a feat I really like. I want to see more of those.

I also like the multiclass feats for a different reason than what I've typed above. I don't like multiclassing because having multiple class chassis on one character is clunky and muddles the archetypes. A multiclass feat though like Magic Initiate can give a bit of flavour of another class without damaging the archetype of the character.

I would definitely like to see weapon mastery, more racial feats, and skill & tool feats. I really liked the weapon feats, providing a bit more accuracy and then an interesting trick or two was a great idea and would be snapped up by any of my longsword wielding elves which I want to excel at using a longsword without having to become a walking wall of muscle.

I'd also like to see more feat options for spellcasters. There are only 3 I can think of so I'd like there to be more options there.

I want to see more Swaps. Exchange one race or class feature to get an other race or class feature.

Feats too often feel like a ‘Feat Tax’, requiring the waste of a precious resource just to get a build that the player wants for the hero, that should have been available in first place.

Swaps are better than Feats. Swaps help a player customize a cool balanced, personalized, character.

I would like to see more Feats that simulate Multi-Classing by poaching lesser versions of features from other classes. You would be giving up an ASI instead of levels in your primary class.

I would love to see more Feats that offered specific tactical options for certain kinds of weapons or armor, such as a Shield Wall or Hedgehog. Changing GWM and SS to be based on Proficiency Bonus instead of that current massive bonus they offer, and then including some like Expertise to temporarily increase AC based on Proficiency Bonus.

I would love to see more Background features, and maybe Feats that augment them. Perhaps taking Noble allows you to be a member of a noble family, but taking the "Titled" Feat turns you into the head of that family through merit or inheritance or tragedy or intrigue.

We definitely need more Feats that would be of interest to spell-casters. Maybe enhancements or features of a spell-book, or a special Arcane Focus, or turn options for special Familars or Animal Companions into Feats, or be able to mix two Traditions or Domains.

More exploration pillar Feats like Contacts that will perform special services for you in town, or some form of Mentor or Employer. Maybe turn property ownership into a Feat, for owning a tavern or brothel or watch-tower or some sort of shop.

For example, one Swap can allow an Elf to swap out Darkvision or the +1 ability score increase, for Misty Step (Fey Teleportation) or Elven Accuracy.

An other can allow the Elf to swap out the bow proficiency to apply the finesse property to the longsword.

And so on.
