Half-Elf (Eladrin) Variant as per SCAG?

Ok in your case, playing a simple half elf and saying you're half Eladrin should suffice, but the point of the thread was to play a half elf variant and give them eladrin powers, which I'm against. I would expect to see less half eladrin than half drow, since well the Eladrin live in n the Feywild and humans live in the prime. There just aren't many meetings or reason to cross breed. Truthfully, I like Palladium's approach to the races. Since none of them are human, they can't interbreed and create half races. I think if I were to create a world, I would use the same approach.

So you're not big on Tieflings I take it?

Tiefling isn't a half race. They're cursed humans and don't have another race to steal abilities from. I was just talking to my friend about this, the only races that'll actually be affected would be half-elves and half-orcs.
I really don't have a problem with either of the races themselves, only the half-elf variant and how it takes the best features and abilities of elves. Tiefling variants don't affect any other race. The only thing I would be concerned about would be allowing someone to create one with wings.

You consider an infernal bloodline to be a curse?
Yes of course. The original humans that made the deal might not think so, but the tiefling born in human society would definitely think so. I mean look at racism in America today, imagine what it would be like if people were having "devil children." A huge percentage of tiefling are killed at birth.

I'm curious. Are you getting this from somewhere in the published works?

I read all the books on 5e, I'll usually get on forgotten realms wiki for more information. In the past I would read articles in dragon magazine. I even read a "domains of dread" adventure from 4th edition where one of the 1st noble families that struck the deal that created the 1st tieflings was trapped in the Shadowfell Ravenloft style. I guess the Shadowfell took Ravenloft's place in 4e.

I was curious because I had never heard of Tieflings referencing their heritage as a curse. They could, of course.
I believe the curse aspect comes from 4e. They created some lore for 4e tieflings that gave them a common ancestry instead of just having fiendish blood of some kind. Personally, I still prefer the fiendish ancestry from earlier editions.

They were originally created in 2e planescape as fiend blooded humans, they didn't have any powers I don't believe. I never played 3e so I have no clue on how they evolved there. I came back into the game at the end of 4e and read how the original ones were those humans that made pacts with demons and devils. I think in 5e is where they said Asmodeous claimed them all and that's where the standardization came in, but of course the newer books offered variations to them, for customization.

I imagine Tieflings as having distant infernal ancestry that manifests in very minor physical traits. Outliers exist that have prominent horns, sharp teeth etc. but they are rare. No eyebrow horns.
