Sometimes when I come to a long thread that I'm not totally invested in, I'll skip a couple of pages at a time. I can't imagine what that experience would be like in this thread.

For anyone coming to this late, I made this handy flow-chart for how the conversations in this thread have developed:

Nonsense. It's a thread about firing Mearls for inserting gender-neutral "y'all's" into Pathfinder 2e.

Mmmm....complex action economies. Now THAT will keep the hobby firmly in the hands of the system masters. Maybe MM will even rehire some gatekeepers.

As an aside, with these recent discussions regarding plural pronouns and singular antecedents, I just wanted to call out your sig. I made a comment a few days ago about when I walked into a bike shop in Portland and one of the employees had their nametag as "they/their". It helped me tremendously. It's reasonable for people to use gender pronouns based on what stereotypical gender a person appears as (after all, 99% of the time it's matching). But it's also reasonable to not want to offend anyone who doesn't identify as a stereotypical gender, and giving me the head's up about what you prefer to be called helps me from making a mistake. So I greatly appreciate that. Thank you.

I admit I get hung up on grammar a bit (as a writer who works with editors, and as a professional in a corporate climate I sort of have to), but if someone advises they prefer a different pronoun, I don't see any reason to be a jerk and refuse their very basic request.

A manager of mine years and years ago had a saying that I love: "No reasonable request should ever be unreasonably declined."

Pronoun identifiers in the form of name tags, signatures on forums, etc. are awesome. Even for cis folks, it helps people be more confident in knowing that they aren’t misgendering someone, it helps normalize the idea of checking for preferred pronouns rather than assuming based on gender presentation, it takes the “I didn’t know” excuse away from jerks who intentionally misgender people they clock and feign ignorance... it’s just a great policy on every level.
