D&D 4E Where was 4e headed before it was canned?

Oh I never said you couldn't go through every instance of use for every skill in session zero if they all had preset DC examples... I said I don't want to.
AND you don't want me or my players to have any tool either AND you are fine with having every spell be something that might need to be gone through. I just do not get even a starting point not really for skills because you do not want a starting point.

didn't Pathfinder 2e just drop? It probably gives you more of what you are looking for in your fantasy rpg then 5e.
I have been curious about PF I admit. I am also interested in Fantasy Hero too (But that was historically... build everything yourself and even more work than coming up with adjustments for 5e)

Yes i have not totally given up on adjusting 5e but I sill find the things it lacks utterly perplexing

Why are you considering those when setting the base difficulty of a task? How difficult is this task for your average joe in neutral circumstances... Why are you factoring bonuses and penalties into base difficulty?
For estimating likely end result as a player do i even want to try this... and as a dm ... am I making a sub level 1 spell effect to be 75 percent likely to fail.

So you're telling me as a player you were able to compute your chance of success in 4e... which also had rerolls and mechanics akin to advantage and so on... but for some reason it's impossible to do in 5e... when both are based off of percentages? Please explain...

I really like the idea of replacing spells with Skill checks: use the dice damage information for spell slots from the DMG as a guide, and use something like the Beserker Exhaustion rules

No sorry not every comment is about 4e ( or comparing its skill system with 5e) even if the thread has it in the title that was more about why using percentiles were understandable for people and the games using them often didnt have re-rolls and dice added to and similar things

Edit: heck the hardest to estimate might be fantasy hero with its 3D6 die mechanism

Me too sort of not entirely different than a magic system that allowed expenditure of hit points i came up with in 1e.
