This seems like special-pleading nonsense to me.
Mearls was mildly called out for his definitely bad actions.
Whereas other people haven't actually been bad are routinely attacked, harassed, doxxed, given death and rape threads, and so on, and no-one writes threads like these to say how awful that is. You've dedicated an awful lot of words to defending someone who actually did something wrong, and doesn't really seem to be suffering, and have now started grandstanding ridiculously about the "society of tomorrow", but the reality is, people who have done nothing at all wrong face a thousands times more venom, hatred, and vileness than Mearls did, and that's the actual problem.
I find it quite discreditable that you moan about the "society of tomorrow" with this as your example, not one of the dozens or hundreds or thousands of people who face genuinely brutal and unpleasant harassment online. What is happening to those people is what we should be worrying about, not a dude who messed up taking a break from the internet.
It's equivalent to writing a lengthy piece because someone you like got yelled at in public, when ignoring the fact that, two blocks away, several people got murdered.
