We’re bringing Monte’s legendary campaign setting, Ptolus, to 5e!
Originally published in 2006 for the d20 System, Ptolus is the massive setting derived from Monte’s personal D&D campaign, played over the course of several years with a veritable who’s who of luminary D&D and d20 designers at the table. It sold out almost instantly, and has held a legendary place in the minds of RPG gamers ever since.
Ptolus: Monte Cook’s City by the Spirewill be released in two versions: one for 5e, and one for the Cypher System. Both versions, like the original, will be 672 pages long in a premium-quality hardcover. And like the original, they’ll also include loads of additional content in the form of physical handouts and digital materials, for a total of around 800 pages.

Not buying the hard cover was one of my biggest RPG mistakes ever. I talked to him at Gen Con. He was signing copies. They were RIGHT THERE!

I wonder how much will be changed....I have the PDFs.....
Agreed we will have to wait and see to see how much is changed or expanded.

Maybe you can get a signed copy thru the Kickstarter hehe.

I know nothing about Ptolus. What is unique or interesting about this setting?
Maybe not that unique anymore, it is urban fantasy with elements of weird fantasy and hints of steampunk. Ptolus is the name of the city which was built over an ancient dwarven city.
There are many dungeons under the city like under Sharn in Eberron or under Ravnica. There is also an impossible tall tower in the middle of the city.
It has a distinct feel to Eberron or Ravnica though.

The pdf is on drivethrurpg for the d20 version I suggest to look it up and check it out.

One of the key things about Ptolus is that it's essentially an expression of the 3e rules. Monte Cook took the rules as physics and tried to extrapolate what a setting shaped by those physics would look like. I will be very curious to see how the world is modified by 5e rules, if in fact it is.

I also hope there will be PDFs. I don't think my bookshelf can endure a second copy of this.
