Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E's reception?

While that is basically true, the pertinent fact was they have different distribution channels
Heh.
I'd offer the pertinent fact is that this really doesn't tell us anything new. We know the CRB sold like gangbusters at release. But the question is: "what did people then think and how will their opinions evolve over the next year or two?".

4E made Mearls a NYT Bestselling author. :)

It's way too early to tell if PF2E has legs or not. I will say that as a 5E player I am finally giving it a serious look (and have spent a bunch of money to be able to do so on Fantasy grounds) and I hardly think I am alone.

If the Fall of Plaguestone playtest goes well, I may transition my 5E group over. I don't really see anything in the 5E PCs that can't be built in PF2 (again, early days for me, so I could be wrong).

I was not a fan of 4e, but it did really sell a lot of product. Every other RPG publisher in the world would have been ecstatic with the sales. 4e biggest problem was always that it was produce by Hasbro, and to print the number of products they wanted to the sales had to be way bigger then they ever would have been.

Notably, my FLGS will not be carrying Pathfinder products which basically means that my store and potential games will be relegated to 5E only as people tend to only play what the store stocks. Granted, after playing P2 more, I'm not sure it is a good fit for me anyway.

I'm replying to my own post because it makes the most sense to me.

A few of us have started a P2 group on Wednesdays at this store. Hopefully this garners more interest and the store may start stocking Paizo products.

I have played two games of P2 with my semi-regular group since I said that P2 wasn't for me and I have to say that actually playing it is so much different than just reading the rules and gleaning what you may or may not like based off that. I can say that I am firmly in the P2 camp now, although I recognize the power of D&D's branding which means Paizo will probably never become a dominant player again.

And I always like to note Paizo only passed D&D when it was already known that 4e was ending production. Paizo still should get credit as the only company to ever do that. No one had ever before, even when TSR went bankrupt and didn't print a product for 6 months. But the idea that anyone will ever pass D&D as the number 1 RPG when it has a popular product is just very unlikely.

White Wolf did.

I don't believe they ever quite did, do you have a reference to that?

pfft that was like 20 years ago but I do believe it is mentioned in the World of Darkness documentary. It was a phenomenon in the late 90s and there were a lot of articles about the small company taking on the 900 lbs Gorilla of AD&D and winning.
