Everything's Fine
I started an sfrpg group on facebook 4 years ago, it is now up to 2500 members, I usually get info on what games are getting traction, last alternity post was a while ago, like a year ago. Doing a search I see I made a post linking back to en world with news of the new edition back in 2016.

Ah, wish I did Facebook. I hope they talk Traveller there.

There is Traveller talk, as well as specific groups for Traveller. The sfrpg group is also a big news group. I'd like to get away from fb too, except where to go? Discord is like a chat with teens, except I've did done my parenting, not really wanting to go back to that. G+ was pretty good but it's now gone. Sadly, it looks like twitter is where a lot of the game stuff is going.

Said no one, ever.

People think facebook is incredibly important, until they don't use it. And then they realize how crushingly inessential it is.

Yes, exactly. I quit on inauguration day (US) 2017, and haven't missed it a bit - except in the very rare cases like now. But not enough to drag me back.

I guess there's always EnWorld...

Though really, I wish I could, here is a desert for the most part, it's got some good news, and that is about it.

edit: Right now Marc Miller is posting in the Classic Traveller group, Colin Dunn on his timeline, and recently Luke Gygax, Dyson Logos, and Brad Murray, this is just game stuff, not including the space, engineering, and Slav groups I belong to. I do wish there was a place similar, that wasn't there, except there isn't.

Is that because it's on facebook? Or because you built a great community? I mean, could you also build a community here? Those people could come here, and not participate elsewhere on this site?

WoTC needs a flag ship science-fiction game.

I would like to see a sci-fi RPGs that can do Star Frontiers/Alternity and Gamma World all rolled into one. Also a game that takes into account all the technological progress that has been made since the games were published.

My understanding is that a huge problem with WotC running ANY new games of any kind, and why they basically stick to D&D and M:tG, is that WotC is a subsidiary of Hasbro, and Hasbro thinks entirely in terms of "brands", and a "brand" MUST make a certain amount of money each year to be allowed to operate, and the standard that Hasbro has for a successful "brand" is so high that the only things in the whole industry that could meet that standard are M:tG and D&D. Games that would be massive smash hits for any other company in the industry and would be highly profitable, would be seen as unimportant and too small to save by Hasbro.

They can't plain just make side-project games anymore, like they could before they were a Hasbro subsidiary or when it was TSR, everything has to fall into the corporate mindset of "brands".

It's my understanding that this is why WotC discontinued d20 Modern (which makes me sad, I really liked that), and why they didn't renew the license on the Star Wars RPG (the license being signed before WotC was bought by Hasbro, so they had to continue it due to contractual obligations, and in the best of years I vaguely remember hearing it could hit those numbers that Hasbro wanted, but it couldn't do it constantly, and I guess LFL wanted a lot of money to renew the license in 2010 when it was running out).

I'd love it if WotC could revive d20 Modern and use that as a platform to bring back Star Frontiers, Dark*Matter, and all the other vintage Sci-Fi settings they had in the 80's and 90's. . .but unless Hasbro has made a significant change in internal policy, it's improbable that will happen.

I have said some times in the past Hasbro has got, or should, plans about a d20 Modern. If now D&D is working, why not other genres? for example adaptation of other Hasbro franchises (Transformers, G.I.Joe, Rom Spaceknight, M.A.S.K), or videogames, from WotC studios or from other companies, for example Overwatch, Starcraft or Fortnite: Save the World. Maybe the first step would be a new edition of Gamma World, where they could test new ideas. You have to notice the firearms and modern vehicles can break the power balance in the standar d20 system.
