D&D 5E Healing spirit has been updated?

They must have really thought this was a problem; they've been very very hesitant to issue functional changes of this magnitude. The other errata in the XGtE update are, y'know, errata -- typos.

Well, probably not something we will implement. We've never had an issue with it as written, and remembering to change it is just not going to happen

Will have to see what some of my DMs think over time though

Not a good fix, IMO, makes it unnecessarily complex. I really don't know why people complained about it. Is it good, certainly, but prayer of healing is better AFAIAC.

Why not just make the errata: "The spirit can heal only one creature each round. If multiple creatures would be affected, you choose which one is healed in each round."

Since most of the complaints are about out of combat, prayer of healing can heal an average of up to 54 points, not even adding in the modifier. Healing spirit averages only 35 if you allow it to only heal one target per round (which would have been a much better fix IMO and easier to implement).

Strongly disagree. I like that Healing Spirit can heal as many members of your party as need to be healed in a round instead of having to wait for it. That keeps at least some of its combat utility.

And Prayer of Healing should be a lot better than this spell out of combat. PoH takes 10 minutes to cast; HS takes a bonus action.

Prayer of healing cannot be used in combat while 4 PC's benefitting from healing spirit every turn easily out-heals prayer of healing, mass healing word, and aura of vitality.

Once per round is too restrictive. 1+mod can heal multiple targets fast. Knowing that it's based on ability mod isn't any more complicated than many other abilities that work the same way.

Now instead of good in combat and OP out of combat it’s fair out of combat and crap in combat...

:\
It's actually still decent in combat. Multiple party members can heal all at once. If your spellcasting stat is 16 or higher (so, all Druids are fine ... ok, Rangers are screwed) this will still put out a lot more healing than a same-slot Healing Word does, and spread out to whoever needs it.

Honestly, this seems to me more likely to be Photoshop or some similar chicanery.
It is apparently an official change, there is another post on these forums about. Crawford posted about new printings of XGtE including errata and an errata document will be release soon.
