It could very well be a coincidence... but I think the fact that there isn't an adventure within the Theros book will only help direct people to the Dragonlords campaign adventure path.

I think it's unfortunate that they're both called "Odyssey of" (albeit WotC's is "Mythic Odysseys"), but one can hope so.

And it could be WotC's way of throwing Ohlen and the others a bone for coming to work for them.

Sadly not possible. The pipeline between a book being written, having the art done, and so on, and released, is pretty long - and Ohlen etc. were only hired fairly recently.

I dunno... Archetype Entertainment was established in April 2019, Odyssey of the Dragonlords was released as a product in PDF form in October 2019, and Mythic Odysseys of Theros doesn't come out until June 2020. WotC will have been in contact with James Ohlen et. al. for well over a year (probably even longer since they had to negotiate contracts and stuff to create Archetype) and have been aware of the Dragonlords product for even longer than that. That's more than enough time in the Theros production pipeline for them to decide to not include an adventure in MOoT.

Yeah, looking into the book, Odyssey of the Dragonlords seems perfectly poised to be slightly reskinned as a Theros AP...and I wouldn't be surprised if there had been a little bit of inside info going on, given that timeline.

I haven't played Magic since, I dunno, 1994?, but from skimming a brief descriptions of the planes, my vote would be on Zendikar - seems flavorful without being too exotic, and lends itself nicely to high-level play, which is the big gap in the current lineup.

I'd also like to see Dominaria, as it sounds like a good "vanilla bean setting" (meaning, strongly flavored vanilla)--and I would think "Magic Classic" would be pretty risk-free. I wouldn't be surprised if they went for Ixalan or Kaladesh. Hopefully not Innistrad...pretty sick of Ravenlofty-ness, and there's already Curse of Strahd.

I don't think Innistrad will be within the next 2 years, I don't think they will do a plane until the card set visits it again. The last one kind of wreck the plane in some ways, Eldrazi have that effect, so I think like with Zendilar they will want to fix the plane/world up, before doing a Innistrad hardcover. Plus there really aren't a lot of races of Innistrad, mostly just human and monsters, a problem shared with Ikoria, which you see in the Planeshift article.

Kaladesh I don't think was popular enough. Ixalan I would really like to see the Empire that the living Vampires come from in a set first. Kaladesh I think was supposed to have an Indian flavour, but I think it was too subtle to come through.

Curse of Strahd + the plane shift + the art book is plenty to be going on with.

What was getting annoying in the artbooks was the lack of maps. This was addressed a bit with Ixalan, though the map was a murky mess, and sorted with Dominaria. But yeah Kaladesh was a disappointment and stopped my collection until Dominaria.
