Unearthed Arcana Why UA Psionics are never going to work in 5e.

This is awesome. As long as the people who want a Psion class keep bickering like this, those of us who do not won't have to say a word.
Anti-Warlord and Anti-Psion? It's like your raison d'être is to be a killjoy for me having a fun D&D that I enjoy.

Y'know stuff like that just makes me sneak back in with my "Well, design space isn't completely filled out arguments" :p

Mind I'm a flavor guy and not a mechanics sort so all of this mechanics heavy chat can't really have me contribute much.

I am trying to say that it is the design challenge of the psion. Why is this such a contraversial statement?
I think you are overstating the challenge.

That is it. That is my entire point. Make sure that if you design a Psion, you don't make it OP or redundant when compared to the closest thing we have to what people say they want. I don't know why that has been taken to this point where I am being told that such a design isn't impossible, I never said it was, I was simply pointing out the challenges in the design process.
Okay. How about this? Make this "psionic" Enchanter Wizard you keep talking about. Let's see what it would actually look like when you flesh it out.

The thing with the psion (or Mystic) is there is no psion shaped hole. There is no other choice but for it to do the same thing as existing classes, just with different mechanics and/or fluff. Not that that is a real issue - D&D has lots of overlap already - but some people see it as an issue.

By saying that the challenge exists I am overstating it?

Again, I'm not saying it is an insurmountable challenge, or that it poses such a problem we should never make a psion. The entire point is "this is a challenge that exists in the design"

How is that overstating it?

I would have no problem making it, but you seem to still be under a misunderstanding about my point, So I don't think it would actually be productive at this stage.

Plus, we would need to agree on a level, race, whether I should us this new UA, and what categories of psionic abilities you would want me to try and replicate.

It seems like this is either a sufficiently difficult challenge to exist that it's worth repeatedly bringing this statement up or it's not, in which case it's just a meaningless truism that actually adds little to no value to the discussion.

Why would we need to agree on this? It's not as if this was something worth agreeing to everytime you mentioned the enchanter wizard before. Make this hypothetical psionic enchanter wizard that you think is worth bringing up every time we talk about a psion class.

We could always go the Warhammer 40K route for the Psion. Just blatantly steal a bunch of mechanics and rename everything. I put on my Psionic Cloak and my Mind Gloves and belt on my Intellect Blade. After a hearty breakfast of Telepathy Crunch, I read through the Psion Times and sip a nice hot cup of Glowing Clairsentience herbal tea. Easy-peasy.
