I'm curious where these would appear. A setting book? Another Volo/Xanathar type book? Genie has a definite flavor, but it could be a Planar book as well.

The big news is in small print:

That sounds to me like they heard the outcry against just making psionics a subclass of magic and are going to release a true psionic class.

They have only just opened the survey for the latest psionic UA. They talked about not progressing a wizard psionic subclass, too. That will be this one: https://media.wizards.com/2019/dnd/downloads/UA-PsychicSoulPsionics.pdf

I had forgotten just how clear the evolution of the most recent psionics UA was from this one - the older UA contains a fighter similar to the Psi Knight, a Soul Knife and a Psionic arcane tradition that looks a little similar to the Psionic Soul sorcerer.

(And after re-reading that, I still count the new psionic talent die model as the best psionics ruleset I've seen)

I like the Phantom, but the psychic splash damage seems a bit large. It is a 50% damage buff to sneak attack. I enjoy the flavor of harnessed souls to ask questions and use as bargaining chips with death (advantage on death saving throws). Ghostwalk is thematic.
The Genie lock is ok. The free bag of holding for your stuff and rope trick is maybe a bit strong but works the theme. Limited wish as a class feature worries me but is very thematic and a great capstone.
I love the Scribe. I would play this right now. The scroll ability might need a limit on it, but fits so well. I have been waiting for this subclass since the playtest when they were talking about your choice of focus would shape your abilities.

Oh this is where the title goes?
Tokens of the Departed - particularly weak. Sure you can ask a question but almost all souls you grab will lie, likely in a language you don't know. The only real use is when an allied NPC dies in 30 feet of you, which is extremely situational. This alone is not worthy of a 9th level ability.
You saw it grants basically permanent advantage on Con saves and death saves? I think that is the main benefit and it is pretty good.

I like the way they did the patron spells for the warlock. I think they maybe should have gone a little more wealth/slavery for the dao (more mental spells). Speaking of that, maybe it is just me, but genies seem more "cash up front" than we want your soul eventually fiends, we are playing a twisted game fey, or you think you are stealing power from us (its so cute [and tasty] when snack food thinks it is clever) GOO's, so maybe limited wish should be a week between use (like divine intervention) unless you bribe the genie with a magic item, a priceless jewel, a famous work of art, etc.

I declare, every time they publish a UA, it has a different filename standard. How am I supposed to keep them in order? @WotC !!!* #uafilebroke...... :ROFLMAO::LOL:

* I know they dont have that as an account here...

Regarding other wizard subclasses, we can share that neither of the wizard subclasses we’ve presented in Unearthed Arcana recently—Onomancy and Psionics— will be moving forward in our development process.

Well, I read the onomancy subclass. At first, I wasn't interested. Then, I got a little into it. And, to be honest, I started getting a bit excited about onomancy. And then a little more excited. A little more excited. A bit more excited. Then really excited!

....and then I wasn't excited.

So, yeah, I can see why they dropped it.

The Phantom feels like the Shadow, the Genie Patron feels like Disney Alladdin and the Scribe Wizard is weird and cool.

Success.
