Dungeons & Dragons has announced a new Unearthed Arcana focused on horror subclasses. The new UA, available now on D&D Beyond, introduces a mix of new subclasses and thematic subclasses from 2014 5th Edition. The full list of subclasses are as follows:
  • College of Spirits Bard
  • Grave Domain Cletic
  • Phantom Rogue
  • Shadow Sorcerer
  • Heblade Patron Warlock
  • Undead Patron Warlock
  • Reanimator Artificer
  • Hollow Warden Ranger
The Reanimator Artificer is built around creating a reanimated companion that can act in combat and explodes when it dies. The Hollow Warden Ranger adds a Wrath of the Wild feature that activates when casting Hunter's Mark and adds various emanation effects while active.

No word on what this UA is related to, but there is a mystery product coming out in October and these horror subclasses could tie into a potential Ravenloft book.

You can check out the full Unearthed Arcana here.

I've considered that angle. I'm not sure who the Lord would be. Edgar Markov? Olivia? Emrakul? Avacyn? Griselbrand? Lots of options, but none of them quite fit the "Dark Lord" requirements.

Emrakul is too new to the plane. Despite being able to Planeswalk, I'd go with Sorin Markov, it's just he has a longer leash then other Dark Lords, but always gets drawn back to Innistrad.

Emrakul talks like she created Innistrad
I think that's her ego, as a cosmic horror, she sees everything as a toy. Also, I think Dark Powers could not be able to hold entity this powerful. If greater God can walk out of Domains of Dread, so can cosmic horrors.
Regarding the Darklord, I don't think it's Sorin either. His father on the other hand....

We should remember the dark lord Gwydion the sorcerer-fiend. "its" background was like mixing Lovecraft myths and shadow feys. If this was free, it could face Valgavoth(Duskmourn).

How would be the "death house" within Duskmourn plane?

A new dark domain could be a parody of Stryxhaven...or other M:tG planes.

How would you mix Gothic Horror and new weird fiction? I guess something style "House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski, Ravenloft but with the monsters from Backrooms or Fundation SCP.

While I agree that cosmic horror could easily walk in and out of Ravenloft and that Markov would be the best dark lord, Sorin definitely isn't. I still think that Emralul might have made Innistrad, maybe she is a dark power
