Opinions on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4ed?

I'm currently looking for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and I was wondering what were your opinions on this one? I'm looking more for fluff than anything, I don't plan running this (at least not this year). Is it possible that the Starter set is totally sold out in North America? Thanks!

I have run the first part of The Enemy Within campaign. I think it's a solid system, and the production values are excellent. The hit locations and build up of "advantage" (not sure of the exact term ATM) took me a minute to get, coming from a mostly D&D background. However we enjoyed it and would've likely stuck with it longer had a player not moved away.
Do you have specific questions? I have the Starter Set, core book, and first volume of The Enemy Within. I'll be happy to crack them open and check for you.

Big fan of the setting, and I really like the rules mechanics for the system, too. Until recently I was running games and converting players in my area, but COVID and some VTT hiccups around WFRP4 stalled us out a bit. There‘s a fair amount of published support for the game, too — and it’s super easy to convert stuff from decades of other editions.

I'm running it. I love everything, but the combat system. We run combat using 2e rules. The books have been excellent so far. I like the starter set - I thought it was a good value.

I’d definitely recommend Ubersreik Adventures. its is a continuation of the starter set adventure and is completely original. Lots of small modules that can be strung together into a campaign. They are working on a sequel and the first adventure is available. Also Rough Days and Hard Nights is fun and acts as a good template for a WFRP adventure design. Though RD&HN is largely re-written from ancient white dwarf articles.

The good thing about Cubicle 7 is that their stuff is available on pdf.

If you want pdf stuff for fluff from earlier editions then Witches Song and the 3e Enemy Within are also good reads.

Have fun, I love WFRP. Long live the Old World!

Mostly, I'm looking for setting fluff, I play Total War Warhammer and I plan to read Gotrek series. Moreover, the Ubersreik Adventures book is just out at my local bookstore and it seems a good package to go with the starter box. The issue is that I don't find the starter box anywhere in North America and I wouldn't pay for air shipping, it will be too expensive (and the covid delays won't help either).

I think it looks great, but the level of complexity is past my tolerance point. At this point I'd just assume run Warhammer 2e instead. As far as fluff goes, the books would probably be the best place to go. The Gotrek & Felix series would be my choice to read first, along with Kim Newman's Genevieve. The Masters of Stone and Steel omnibus is a lot, but cool for dwarf fans.

Drachenfels is an awesome novel and really captures the feel of the Old World for me. Funny and dark as pitch.

Also read the Matthias Thulman Witch Hunter books, Hammers of Sigmar, The Konrad Saga, Beasts and Velvet, The Orfeo Trilogy - Zaragoz, Plague Daemon and Storm Warriors, the Carstein Trilogy is fun too.

I’d bite the bullet and get the core book. They do reprints is the starter set from time to time. There isn’t that much fluff in the starter set. Really just one small corner of the Old World.

The Starter Box has around 65 pages of setting fluff, mostly centered on the city of Ubersreik and a little about the rest of the surrounding Duchy. The Core Rules have about 21 pages of pure fluff with more interspersed throughout.
Of course if you're not looking for the system and the games, reading novels and Wikis would be a more efficient and cost-effective means of collecting fluff.
