D&D 5E What is the appeal of the weird fantasy races?

What on earth?

What the hell do movies have to do with it? You just invent goalposts at will, now?

It's about visuals. Can I picture a dragon or a roc or a burrowing creature? Yes. We've seen similar things plenty of times. Can I picture a centaur climbing a ladder? No.

Ah, tone trolling. The lowest form internet debate. What better way to avoid engaging with the substance of someone's argument, than to take issue with how they've presented it?

Comic books, then, since you brought those up. Demonstrate that a centaur climbing a ladder is "comic book believable."

(I don't concede that D&D is required to be "action movie believable" or "comic book believable," by the way. I don't personally consider either of those to be much better than "Loony Tunes believable." I'm just lowering the bar for you, since not every group is going have the same standards regarding genre and tone when it comes to matters of verisimilitude.)
A thing having appeared or not in a comic book wouldn’t prove or disprove anything.

As for tone “trolling”, what you’re describing is called tone policing, and isn’t a thing I’ve done.

You mean things like

Seems pretty judgmental to me. I'm sure if I went back more than 2 posts I could find other examples.
And what part of that statement tells you how you should play your game?

Your accusation was specific, and in reply to my post. Your accusation wasn't something I did in the post you replied to. It's not in this one.

Stop it.

If you feel like I've violated forum policy, feel free to report me.

As far as stopping it ... fair enough. Stop being dismissive of other people's opinions (which is, effectively, telling them they're doing it wrong).

Do you seriously not understand why people would have an issue trying to imagine how a centaur could climb a ladder? Because whether you allow it or not as a DM (it is your choice) do you really not understand why some people would not allow it?

It's not a forum policy issue man. It's a good faith discourse issue. I certainly can't stop you from engaging in bad faith. But you should.

Separately, I'm trying to tell if you're actually joking or you believe this last bit.

Because if you believe this last part, then every time you've been dismissive of other people's opinions (and it's happened...a lot) then you've been telling them they've been doing it wrong...

..which seems to be your exact complaint. Soooo.. are we just in pot and kettle territory then, or do you want another shot at this?

If you refuse to accept that telling people that they lack imagination because they don't run things like you do is telling them they're doing it wrong I give up.

Have a good one.

Wow. Didn't say that either.

You said 'I can't imagine centaurs on ladders'.

I said, 'That isn't the players' problem.'

And it isn't. They can't make you believe something you find unbelievable. You either do that yourself or you don't.

Dude, I'm done. Have a good one.
