2e, 5e. Only d20 Modern and d20 Star Wars for the 3e.

For me, it was more about the world building.

2, 3, 3.5, and now 5. There are multiple things, even divorced from mechanics or rules, about 4th that I really dislike as far as retcon/setting progression.

BECMI: I started with this. Still good for simplicity.
AD&D2e: the settings.
3.5: logical and coherent
5e: original spirit plus 3.5 precision. The best IMO
