Developing D&D shouldn’t be a zero sum game, where attracting diversity comes at the cost of our long time loyal fan base.

Hollywood movies have become increasingly bland and insipid as they shoot for global success. This is because different ethnic groups don't like the same things, have the same sense of humor, relate to history the same way, and so on. You end up sanding off all the details to try and universalize a cultural product. This moralizing language is more often than not just a mask for corporations seeking greater profits. There's not really a moral imperative behind trying to sell Iron Man in Mexico, Star Wars in China, or McDonald's in India.

One of the biggest (and best) dioramas they had was the one showing the Praetorian Guard's defense of some outpost against a horde of Orks. Praetorian guards were just Mordians with the head of a Cadian painted differently, but the diorama was popular enough that they released a line of Praetorian models.

Thing is, this whole scene was based on the film Zulu. That's not interpretation, that's what the creators said. And they chose to represent the British soldiers by human Imperial guardsmen, and the Zulus by Orks.

The Warhammer World is full of real world cultures represented by monsters. But even to the people who created that the idea that evil elves had black skin seemed problematic.
There’s an event that turned up at GaryCon a couple of years back that was the defense of Orc’s Drift. Again, clearly the part of the Zulus was played by orcs. It was a cool miniature battle setup and I’m sure the organizer thought they were making the most delicious pun... if it weren’t for the racially charged undertone they probably were insensitive to.

Hollywood movies have become increasingly bland and insipid because the ones in control are often old and what they think grants appeal outside of their group is out of date

That sentiment seems familiar somehow...

EDIT: For those who don't know, this character is Tsukasa Shishio, the teenage villain from the anime Dr. Stone. After everyone in the world is petrified due to an unknown phenomenon, he's of the opinion that society was inherently corrupt, and that all adults - who have necessarily taken part in society - are complicit. To that end, he plans to restore only a select group of "pure-hearted youth" who hadn't yet sold out to become part of society (smashing the petrified forms of people he deems unworthy), and have humanity live in a perpetual Stone Age society free of vice and corruption.

Naturally, he's opposed in this by the hero of the series, Senku Ishigami, who plans on restoring everyone and bringing humanity back to its former technological level as fast as he can via his encyclopedic knowledge of every scientific discipline.

that and Hollywood and seemingly everywhere seem to be hesitant to really pull in new talent for some madness derived reason.
