No, Americans means anyone from the continents of North and South America. Just as European means anyone from the continent of Europe, and that includes the English, whether they like it or not.
No. People from South America are referred to as South Americans or Latinos and people from Canada are referred to as Canadians. People from the U.S. are referred to as America. This is how the word is used.

But it doesn't work that way in the Americas. The term "Americans" really only refers to citizens in the U.S.A. Why? My opinion is that the U.S. is essentially a cultural bully, driven by the idea of "American (US) exceptionalism" and basically appropriated the term. The rest of the continent (North and South), let us have it, and are not super interested in being identified alongside us.
Or else it's because we're the only country in the Americas with America in the name. We're the United States of America. It would be nonsense to call us Unitidians or Statesians, so we're Americans.

It has nothing to do with appropriation or bullying.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but... what else would we call ourselves? United Statesians? Usans? Units? Our country's name doesn't really lend itself to being used as an adjective. "America" is the one part that you can just tack "-n" on the end, so that's what we did.

You can of course say that it was pretty arrogant of us to call ourselves "The United States of America" in the first place, and there's something to that, but honestly, "United States of America" feels more like the founders had to find a name that would be acceptable to all 13 constituent colonies, and just couldn't think of anything better.

So, I just did the math, out of curiousity. There was a nine month gap from the introduction of Gothic subclasses in Unearthed Arcane until the May release of Ravenloft. Nine months from the Draconic subclasses would be this July...two months after Ravenloft, two months before the September Adventure.

While that is true of us, I don’t think that’s why.

I think it’s simply the fact that we are the only nation in which the only non-titular element of the full name is the word “America”. The only other thing you could thus call us is “USian”, which sounds incredibly stupid no matter how you pronounce it.

If Germany was instead called Europe, it would be confusing to also call everyone else around them European, and either the country or the continent would end up named differently eventually, even if only colloquially.

Neatly fits, if this year there truly are five books instead of four.

I think there will be five, as it doesn't make sense they are releasing Ravenloft so soon after Candlekeep, when I assume the release after would be the September Adventure Book.

Anyway, now that I re-read the Draconic subclasses, I'm skeptical this is Dragonlance. A dragon-monk especially feels ill-fitted for the setting.

So I still think it's going to be something like Dragotha's Dragonomicon or something. Big monster book, a couple new subclasses, lots of fluff on things like Gem Dragons, probably maps for each dragon type's lair, maybe even new races like half-dragons or something.
