WotC James Wyatt is on the Dungeons & Dragons Team Again

I totally agree. 4th edition literally tried to reinvent the Wheel. I’m glad it got canned and we were able to return to a more nuanced system that is better placed to benefit from what went before. Rather than lore that throws all that out in favour of a clean slate. 4e reminds me so much of GW’s Age of Sigmar.

I should be clear I’m talking about the lore not the rules.
LoL. :ROFLMAO:

But please keep in mind, TheSword, that this thread also attests to a fair number of people, myself included, who were saddened to see the canning of the World Axis and its lore. But the World Axis was hardly a "clean slate," as it still preserved a lot about D&D's cosmology and lore, albeit in a different way.

I’m sure we can debate back and forth about which system is better. I’ll consider my position vindicated by the fact that 5e returned to the 16 Alignment based Outer Planes and separate Inner Planes.

Why would you need vindication? People are allowed to like what they like, there is no wrong answer to which cosmology you like. It is even possible to like more than one:

I like the great wheel because it was what I grew up with.
I liked the world axis because of the coherent lore behind it.
I like the great wheel axis (5e) because it blends the two.
I like the wheel/aether axis (my homebrew) because it takes 5e and mixes in Spelljammer and MtG.

I don't understand @Scribe's red skin tone criticism of 4e tieflings. The PHB 1 entry for Tieflings had a light tan skin tone so clearly "red" skin was never as monolithic as imagined. Even their horns come in different styles
That's because my issue isn't the skin tone.

The picture you included is so over the top those may as well be full blooded devils, or cambions.

That's my issue. No subtlety. No wonder. No doubt.

Again, I wouldn't want to remove the option for someone to look like that, as I have consistently said on a number of issues (Tasha's, Orcs, Alignment) I don't want people to lose options.

Simply put, I don't want Wizards putting us on rails.

All Tieflings (and look at the vast majority of 4e art) look like this now.

All Tieflings now are from Asmodeous.

That's my problem. Red, Blue, Green. I don't care as long as we also get human skin tones, small or no horns, and no tail, in addition to 'massive ram horns, a tail and bony growths'.

Make sense? 4e took away. It didn't add.

That's certainly your opinion, and one that I don't share.

And you know what? I'm more than okay with the changes. I quite like them.

I doubt that we will see eye-to-eye on this matter, Scribe. Just be aware that there are people who like the changes made to tieflings and don't want to see them reverted.

Point out where I said you should lose what you like.

The part where you try to get rid of the unified look and backstory.

Make them something other than Tieflings, like a more general "plane-touched."
Well, they already did that with SCAG, MoTF, and the UA.

So...I guess thats that.

I dont see how that removes YOUR story and YOUR options, but just like everything else it seems I have to lose mine.
