Fully agreed. It's just that something that takes an hour to walk across shouldn't take more than, say, a day to walk around.

By which I mean, if you imagine the Acid Fields as being a circle, then if it's 2 miles in diameter, it's only a bit over 6 miles in circumference. Or if it's more of a 2 mile square, then the perimeter is 8 miles. So in this case, walking around it should only take an extra hour or three.
I mean, my answer remains exactly the same? You just replied to the first sentence. I guess I'm not expressing it adequately! :)

If you are going to discourage them from chosing to go around (which I agree with) then why make them "win" just by going slowly THROUGH it?

That is when you can throw anything in their path forward & back to complicate the process. Whie they are focused spotting the geysers, all kinds of things could be happening behind & around them or even right under their path.... to say nothing about possible trolley problem type choices they now need to find solutions to in order to avoid "ohthatsbaad"

@Morrus, unrelated to ECs, but I didn't want to start a new thread. What did you guys replace minor disadvantage with? I'm building a sample Herald and the combat maneuver I chose grants minor disad (Intimidating Glare).

Hmm. There's no Intimidating Glare in the current document. There's an Imposing Glare (1st degree Tempered Iron), so maybe it's that renamed?

Imposing Glare (1 point)

1st degree Tempered Iron bonus action

For a moment you unleash your fury forcing your enemy to hesitate.

Choose one hostile creature you can see within 30 feet. If it can see you, it makes a Charisma saving throw or is frightened of you until the end of your next turn.

After you have used this maneuver against a creature, until the end of combat it has advantage on saving throws to resist Imposing Glare.

Probably. I couldn't find the most recent document and they're both the same tradition/degree, so that's likely it. Thanks!

We only released one, about 6 months ago. The current version hasn’t been seen publicly.

This table I think will be an excellent quality-of-life inclusion. Standardisation of challenge sizes compared to the standard travel paces.

It might be that I just got home from work and I'm exhausted to the point of stupid, but I have no idea what this chart is talking about. Can you explain it briefly so I can say "Oh yeaaah. Duh. My bad."

Unless I'm completely misunderstanding it somehow it's this thing from phb182 scaled to the exploration challenge sizes & a few travel paces players might use in an attempt to be careful moving through

edit: There was some discussion earlier about what if players decide to carefully work their way through so it seems logical to be related
