It's not just The Wild Beyond The Witchlight's cover art being revealed today! We also have Magali Villeneuve's cover art for Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos! Strixhaven is an upcoming D&D setting based on the recently released Magic: the Gathering world, and features a mage school -- as Theros was to Greece, Strixhaven appears to be to Harry Potter!

Gods, I'm mourning that they cancelled "The Art of Magic: The Gathering" series.

I REALLY wanted a Theros one. And now I REALLY want a Strixhaven one.

I guess I'll have to suffice with this webpage to pour over the art:

It will, but the Ravnica one and the GGtR were perfect compliments to each other. I loved that series so much. I want more coffee table M:tG artbooks. I don't play the game, but the art commissioned is gorgeous and the worldbuilding is just really cool.

I am curious whether all of the Feywild UA's races are meant for Strixhaven... the owlfolk is obvious, and the Feywild hobgoblin can fit well with the Strixhaven orc (which looks a bit different and more magical)... but the fairy, and the rabbitfolk (or frogfolk) do not have links to Strixhaven that I have seen.

They may just add all of these to Strixhaven regardless of what the MTG cards depicted, but it may be possible they are actually putting fairy and rabbitfolk in the Feywild adventure, and the rest in Strixhaven, or some other combination.

The Fairies were curious, because they do not behave like D&D Fey...but they do look like MtG Fairies. There are no FRie or Rabbotfol cards in the Strixhaven Set, but both are MtG Creatures.

Could the Rabbitfolk actually be planeswalking Soratami from Kamigawa? I don't want to visit Kamigawa anytime soon (if we get an East Asian fantasy setting, I want it written and created by East Asian persons), but the Soratami or Moonfolk are the coolest idea from that block and I'd love to see them in Strixhaven. And at least one is a prominent Planeswalker who has shown up in recent sets, Tamiyo.

Basically it would be the same deal as with Kara-Tur: let it be a resource to draw some characters from, but don't shine a light on the setting anytime soon.

For those who haven't read A Wizard of Earthsea -- I was shocked that no one on an episode of Um, Actually appears to have -- Ged does some very ill-advised magic at wizard school and then has to spend the rest of the novel fixing the damage.

Honestly, an idiot showing off for a girl with fire spells in the library is just another Tuesday.
