D&D 5E If you're buying Strixhaven, will it to be to run a campaign there, or as a crunch sourcebook?

My son is a math/science prodigy who wanted to play a wizard but who found the damage per round too low. (Math guy, go figure. Instead, he went with a swashbuckler rogue murder machine.) I figure he'll want to play a Quandrix character some time, Strixhaven or no Strixhaven.
The Dunamancy subclasses in Wildemont do magic-as-quantum-mechanics so much better.

Well I'm definitely buying the book, I'll may run Strixhaven in the future but more likely I'm going to mine it for ideas for one of the mage guilds in my homebrew world. I've always wanted to run an all mage game though, might have to see if people in my group want to run a one shot wizard campaign.

That's the approach Redhurst took. I suspect Strixhaven will have lots of planar gates instead, so they can keep the MTG planar brand strong.
Planar Gates aren't a thing in modern Magic lore: Planeswalkers alone cam cross the barriers between world, not even gods can match that. There are only four Planeswalkers at Strixhaven, two faculty and two students in Prismari, but the School is familiar with the concept academically.

In the book, the Narnia stuff is a gateway to talking about the disillusionment of adulthood after the promises made in high school and college. In the TV show, it's about being sexy on a very limited budget.
I think you're playing up the "cheesecake" portion of the TV show a little heavily; it definitely hits some pretty dark downbeats during the show. It's not the Leftovers, but it's pretty far from a 90210 reboot or some other CW show as well.
