D&D 5E Bag of Holding Question

A lot of you put WAY more thought into this than I do. I pretty much let them use it as an infinite bag of holding, unless they try to put something really big in. If it's too big by itself I say no, and if it's kinda almost too big I ask what's already in it, and if the answer is "a lot" I say no. But other than that, keeping track of the total volume/weight doesn't seem to add any fun to the game.
Think you missed the point of the OP. Im trying to get away from the infinite BoH.

I just pulled out my 2e Black Hack and it has a usage die mechanic but not the encumbrance slots I was thinking of that I saw.

There are a lot of OSR systems, not sure where to direct you there for the one I was thinking of.
So youre not talking D&D? I remember a black box 2E starter box 97 on so.

I just let it be infinite capacity with limited aperture and throughput. This keeps them from storing houses (portable houses are higher level and more expensive) or consuming the ocean while serving the purpose I always saw it as having: eliminating my need to pretend to care about encumbrance.

I then hand them out immediately at level 1 as god intended.

Why give it away at level one?

It's one mechanic of what will players do with all the loot they gathered but they need to press on.

Another good use for Outlander background as they can remember exact location of buried caches of loot after the quest is done and you return with cart and pack mules.

Yes, that would be why.

Not going read the whole thread. I would occasionally just go with GP weight limit. If costs 10 gp it weights 10 pds. Coins are 10 to the pound.

I quite honestly have no interest in that as player or DM.
