One of the things that I think will contribute to LevelUp's chances of success is that you can buy any WotC product or adventure for 5E and immediately / seamlessly use it with LU.
Sort of. I expect that it will be similar to using 3.5e products with Pathfinder 1e – it's mostly right, particularly the things that aren't player-facing, but might need some filing off of rough edges where things work a little differently.

I can't think of an example of an O5E product you can't use as-is while playing LU.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't A5e get rid of Exhaustion and split it into Fatigue and Strife? So if anything imposes Exhaustion in an O5e adventure, you would have to adjust for that (or use Exhaustion, but then you need another book). Very minor mind you, but it is something.

Exhaustion and fatigue are the same thing. You don't have to do anything. Nothing in O5E inflicts strife, so its existence doesn't affect O5E content in any way.

Or you can literally just use exhaustion. It's all compatible.

Including player-facing material like Xanathar's and Tasha's? The way it looks to me is that if you want to use an adventure or monster, you might need to add a maneuver DC and then you're done, but making a LU cleric with the Forge domain from Xanathar's would be another matter.

So Exhaustion = Fatigue. OK, I thought there was some difference. I thought I remember seeing a table for Fatigue that had different effects than Exhaustion. Clearly I was mistaken or things have changed.

Yes, I said that. But it requires a separate book to tell you what exhaustion is, making A5e not stand alone and requiring some: " filing off of rough edges" as @Staffan put it. Look, this wasn't a complaint. It is just a reality.

I guess if that's the definition of compatibility you're using, every O5E book since the PHB isn't compatible with 5E because it requires a separate book to tell you what the new content is.

I guess we just define "compatible" differently. I use it to mean "works seamlessly with O5E material", not "a book which contains content you don't need to look at" (because what would be the point of that book?)

Yes, you can do that. That's what we mean by compatible. You can use O5E content with LU. Monsters, adventures, spells, subclasses, NPCs, classes, whatever you like. It'll all still work.

Well I must say I’m excited. I’m probably not going to adopt Level Up as a whole system due to VTT compatibility with other products I’ve already bought for 5e. But there are things in here which just look great and will really enhance a campaign, without too much trouble to integrate.
This is exactly where I am. The pandemic moved all my gaming online. Even when/if it becomes safe to play in person again - the world has changed. My players have moved away, had kids, etc. I don't see being able to play in person again on a regular basis.
