D&D 5E Fizban's Treasury Dragons Ranked By Challenge Rating

I'm assuming that those are just the top-tier CRs, as we know that the gem dragons (and presumably others in the book as well) will very likely have lower-level CRs for the earlier age categories.

Also, as I said on the other thread on this, it's interesting to see that the faerie dragon and shadow dragon made the cut for the in-depth 20!

I think I'll buy this one and finally gather the courage to make a huge epic campaign mixing Lost Mines + Dragon of Icepeak + Tyranny of Dragon + Red Hand of DOOM and Storm King's Thunder.

So condensing that list down a bit it looks like there will be dedicated fluff sections ala Volo's Guide to Monsters for 20 types of Dragon:

the 5 Metallic types (expanded from the MM)
the 5 Chromatic types (expanded from the MM)
the 5 Gem types (not in the MM for 5E)
Deep Dragons (not in the MM for 5E)
Dragon Turtles (expanded from the MM)
Fairie Dragons (expanded from the MM)
Moonstone Dragons (not in the MM for 5E)
Shadow Dragons (expanded from a template in the MM)

The 5 choices outside of the three major groupings are fascinating, I am curious about the lore involved there.

Faerie dragon coverage was something completely unexpected, and I'm definitely intrigued. It's something I really hadn't much thought of before!

I do hope that steel dragons get some sort of coverage, perhaps using silver dragons as a template for stats, like was done in Dungeon of the Mad Mage...

I hadn't given it a huge amount of thought, but Fairie Dragons have big RP potential as friendly NPCs (even patrons for PCs, potentially), so having tables for random Fairie Dragon personalities actually makes a lot of sense.

Reading about this book is making me want to run a council of wyrms campaign/one-shot. Play as a dragon? Yes please! I could probably use the dragon stat blocks and allow some changes for each player so that we end up with dragon-mages, dragon-priests, and dragon-psychics in addition to the standard dragon. Maybe also throw in the dragon-sage.

I'm definitely looking forward to this book, dragons have always captivated me and I enjoy reading any books released in each edition that deals with them.
