D&D 5E Preview Witchlight's New Rabbit People

You can take a look at the harengons, a rabbit-themed race in the upcoming Wild Beyond the Witchlight, over at D&D Beyond.

Harengons are medium or small humanoids with a bonus to initiative, Dexterity saving throws, and a 'rabbit hop' which lets them jump up to five times their proficiency bonus without provoking opportunity attacks.

Creature Type. You are a Humanoid.

Size. You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race.

Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Hare-Trigger. You can add your proficiency bonus to your initiative rolls.

Leporine Senses. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Lucky Footwork. When you fail a Dexterity saving throw, you can use your reaction to roll a d4 and add it to the save, potentially turning the failure into a success. You can’t use this reaction if you’re prone or your speed is 0.

Rabbit Hop. As a bonus action, you can jump a number of feet equal to five times your proficiency bonus, without provoking opportunity attacks. You can use this trait only if your speed is greater than 0. You can use it a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

When you create a harengon or fairy using the rules from The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, you can choose to increase one ability score by 2 and another by 1, or choose to increase three different scores by 1. Further, you know Common and will choose one other language to learn.

As long as you don't think TV, books, movies, comics, and gaming are part of culture, you could be correct.

I would argue that D&D created a cultural shift that purists were unable to stop. D&D definitely lead to an entire genre of video gaming, popular TV shows, massive booklines and more. The culture of D&D is echoed in memes by non-players of the game ever single day with alignment charts and attributes based on faces. The culture of D&D is even echoed by the elder GenXs running tech companies now.
I 100% agree that they helped influence, and still do. But in my opinion, they are a cog in the wheel. Sometimes their cog is large, and other times it's not. But they are definitely influential. But even leaders follow trends. That is more what I meant.

D&D has a long tradition of not classifying all feywild/faerie natives as "fey". Part of the problem is overlapping monster categories . . . . if you're humanoid-shaped, native to the feywild, and undead . . . what is your "type" in the game rules (you can only pick one)? It's best not to equate a monsters type in the game rules with it's provenance in the game world, it doesn't always match up.
4E got around this with making Fey an Origin instead of a creature type, so you could have Fey anything.

but is the idea any lest stupid? no.
as all animal people are kinda dull ideas thus why do you care about one more? what would you want instead anyway?
Are things not allowed to have thematic flavor anymore?

Must everything be the same. A desert is an environment. A jungle is an environment. They must be the same thing?

Words and images carry subtext and connotative meaning. They hold the power of allusions, which many, have been tattooed on our brain that the ink has sunk deep. And you want the connotative and allusion meaning to vanish. Why?

okay, so rabbit woman is something I am going to have to deal with in dnd going forward.
The worlds tiniest electric guitar plays November Rain for you…
Indeed. If you're not careful, you'll find "sexy girl" versions of every D&D race out on the internet somewhere, with a passionate fan base. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Yeah, a cosplayer I follow on ig did a sexy beachwear Godzilla cosplay. Like, made the Godzilla back and claws and stuff. In a bikini. There’s no escaping “sexy”.

The bearfolk are canon in Dragonlance, their name is ursoi, and they are lawful neutral.

I admit I feel a great temptation to imagine a "monster girl" version of the herangon. Other like waifu version of objects or vehicles. These would be possible in D&D? Yes, creating a PC race based in the tsukumogami (there is a manga based in these).

Harengons are "strange", but the fandom wellcomes all with an exotic touch. It is as saying Howard the duck shouldn't appear in the Marvel Universe, or Captain Carrot in DC.

the bear folk art needs work, I am well aware of moe, I just do not like it and the only thing they bloom is a need to remove it from this reality.
cool someone else who know captain carrot the super bunny.

Jump uses the same language
No, it doesn't, it's clearer. It says "The creature's jump distance". "Jump distance" is, specifically, your strength score (running jump) or half your strength score for a standing jump*. RAW, it has no effect on Rabbit Hop, which has a range, and does not affect your jump distance.

*Bestial Rage and the Thief Second Story Work ability modify jump distance, and are, therefore, multiplied by the Jump spell.

So, your position is keywords don't exist in D&D 5e, unless it's for "jump distance"? Okay. Got it. I'm not going even try to pretend that that makes sense.
