D&D 5E A Closer Look At January's D&D Rules Expansion Gift Set

WotC earlier announced a D&D Rules Expansion Gift Set for January, which includes three books - Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, and the new Mordenkainen Presents Monsters of the Multiverse. These were intended for the holidays, but the global production issues mean they'll be out in January. Here's a closer look at them...

Will the DM screen be available separate? Especially the alternate cover one?

That DM screen (the art at least) is the same as for Dragon of Icespire Peak. I don't see why it would be sold separately.

The alt version is completely new.

Interesting choice of what to bundle together. Tasha's and Xanathar's go together, sure. But Mord's Mons of Multiverse should probably go with the other Mord's book and maybe Volo's.

Like the first two would be good for anyone getting into the game, but the last seems much more DM-focused.

Plus, release your Multiverse one closer to Doctor Strange and ride those capetails.

EDIT: I see the new Mords is actually a collection (and probably some new) from earlier books, much like Tasha's and Xanathar's are. Okay, I guess I see it now.

I think the idea is these are all rules books. Meaning, the Mons of Multi book cuts out the lore/adventure from other books and makes it solely a Monster Stats book that aren't in the MM.

It also has the reprints of non-phb races, doesn't it? It's definitely a player book, if so, and fits in the pack.

It does. I think it's less a player book, and more a "core rules book." They mentioned on-stream that if you get the 3 main books, plus these 3, you have all the "core rule books." As opposed to other books that have lore and other stuff.

The alternate covers do not feel much like the alternate covers for the coreset or other alt covers so far. Very on the fence about these.

I guess they wanted a new theme since 2 out of the 3 of these books already had alt covers?
