D&D 5E 5E Survivor - 5th Edition Survives! [+]

Just to clarify, it is a "say something nice about your downvote" thing, not "something nice about 4E" thing. If you're downvoting, say, AD&D or BECMI, I'd like to invite you to say something nice about those editions also. The point I'm trying to make is that there are plenty of things to like about each option, even the option you like the least. You can eat your bitter herbs with a little honey too.

4e had major innovations, and I'm glad that rituals (at least) made it into 5e

5e put Dragonborn into the OGL. That's absolutely enormous, as far as I'm concerned. 4e made them a baseline race, but they were stuck behind the GSL, which is awful (and I absolutely grant that the GSL was one of the worst parts of 4e's existence). 5e means we can now, officially, include them in 3rd-party materials without resorting to silly loopholes.

It honestly is the best complete-in-one-book version of D&D. Come to think of it, it's the only complete-in-one-book version of D&D. Excepting the various intro sets.
I have both the BECMI and the Rules Cyclopedia sitting on my shelf. The only reason I would choose BECMI over the Rules Cyclopedia, is that I started my journey into TTRPGs with it.

I'm downvoting B/X because I've never played it, so I'll say something nice about its very close relative, BECMI instead.

That was the edition that I first played and the thing I loved most about it was the introductory "Choose Your Own Adventure" style solo adventure featuring Aleena the Cleric and Bargle the Magic User that helped a complete beginner (such as myself) understand the concepts and rules of the game. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it in subsequent editions of the game.

Dungeons & Dragons, 4th Edition 8 - bloodied is a brilliant idea that I wish they'd a) kept and b) expanded on in 5e.
