Hiya!
But not that attitudes and approaches to the targeted people DO translate into the real world?
No, they don't. Not in any meaningful manner, imnsho, ...or at least any well-adjusted adult should be able to deal with it in a reasonable and mature manner. If someone thinks that some mechanic in an RPG is "directly affecting them"...well, I don't know what to tell ya.

Not what I said. I said the attitudes fostered and normalized therein.

I should hope reasonable and mature adults would take responsibility for what they are promoting while playing their children's pretend game.

You are just 100% missing the point here.

Well, I am a living example of a very smart person that sucks at decision making in a lot of ways. It is possible folks, although in terms of D&D I'd probably say I'm high INT and (really) low WIS. Anyway, so there's that...

I had a friend say that he was playing the sausage cleric.

....unfortunately, it was a euphemism.
Back in 3E, a friend of mine and I created the gravy domain. In effect we could play a sausage cleric that wasn't a euphemism.
Every time someone uses that term, a French chef beats themselves to death with a baguette.
You make this sound like a bad thing ;)
A lot of discomfort being masked with humor.
Not necessarily. I put forth my opinion and still read the thoughts of others. Some of us are just enjoying some wordplay to break up the drama of the thread. Snarf is known for his quirky humor, and many of us appreciate it.

Meh, I prefer my snarfs to be of a higher caliber, like this guy:

Not sure why, but this statement has rendered me very philosophical.

You know, five hundred years ago such a sentence could never even be pondered, much less said aloud. And yet here I am today, on teh interwebz, pondering exactly this in abject wonderment.

How far we've come as a civilization! What truly breath-taking times we live in!

Back in an almost-all-dungeon crawl OD&D-B/X-1e mashup when I was in middle school I had a "300 lb cleric" whose thing was food and he'd always stock up whenever they were in down. In retrospect I might be grateful we didn't have domains back then...

It feels like there's a big difference between highlighting something to make a mockery of it or to use a condition or group membership as a source of humor, and having someone who happens to have a condition or group membership involved in humor. If numerous people after taking observation can't tell which you're doing, it might be too close to the former?
