But on a serious note, if some vampires, depending on setting, can survive on the blood of non-sentient creatures, why can't some Mind Flayers do the same with non-sentient brains? Those rare few could at least be played a Neutral.

are those brains like those that are created by finding the square root of a negative brain?

Alignments have always just been defaults in 5E. They just buried it in the intro to the MM that no one ever reads.

Exactly. All this noise about how they're "removing alignments" is a molehill being made to look like a mountain. I personally was more concerned about the large amounts of lore being chopped out of Volo's, but Ray's explanation for that makes sense to me. I'm glad I have an old copy of Volo's that still has that content in it, but I don't mind that they've removed it in future copies.

After all, the most memorable and interesting characters often explicitly subvert expectations and stereotypes.

And if there was no stereotype well they would be less memorable and interesting wouldnt they.

Mmmm they really are though. I've not jumped to any conclusions in the previously locked threads.

"We removed alignment before on PC races" well, I disagreed then, I continue to disagree.
