For "d20 Day", we're pleased to offer further adventure material to help celebrate this holiday season.

The following download contains a special preview version of material presented in the D&D Essentials Kit, and is meant as a new group’s first Dungeons & Dragons experience. The short adventure material, characters, and other supplemental information here should get a group started on their journey!

There are two downloads. First is a short adventure from the box set with creatures and magic items and a bit about the pregens, next are the pregens themselves.

Because it's 16MB? That's bigger than most of my PDFs. For reference, the D&D Basic Rules are 11MB.
Yeah, that's what I mean. This little adventure is only 20 pages, yet it's 16MB on disk. Moreover, I've got plenty of other much larger PDFs-- including image-heavy ones-- that load and scroll much faster than these WotC docs. I've seen reports of the same issue for other WotC docs, too (eg the Domains of Delight pdf a few months ago).
It's very strange, like WotC needs to do some sort of clean up on their pdfs before releasing them. A little aggravating, tbh. :(

Still it's nice they're releasing this!

It is nice that they are giving out something. I did find the Gnomengarde quest the most silly and skipped it with my group. I do like the layout of PCs with the skills listed under the appropriate stat.

The essential box you can purchase has 10-12 quests and takes PCs from 1-7ish level where the fight a dragon at the end. There is some stuff on Phandalin town, but not like the first box set. It includes the basic rules, if you need them. A few gimiky things like maps and condition cards are included as well.
