It is pretty much a total copy. I did not play the new one, but flipping through showed the same side quests and such. There is a new big quest with Dragonspear Castle, but made me think it was just a copy/refresh.
It's an homage to N5, the same way Princes of the Apocalypse and Storm King's Thunder are to other adventures from the past.

I would buy an updated version for 5e for the next $50.00 book. I could get this playtest version and update it myself, but they could expand so much better than what they did for the playtest.

Cool! Was the system conversion pretty straightforward to do? Did it work out well?
Yes, it was very easy and fun. No problems with B3 (I guess the ghosts died a little easy). The campaign ran for 28 sessions, I followed B3 with Halls of Tizun Thane & The Licheway from old White Dwarf. Towards the end there was one issue with Mini Six skeletons not being able to hurt very tough & experienced PCs, but overall it was great seeing D&D adventures from a different perspective. We only lost one PC the whole campaign; the D6 Star Wars style system makes death fairly unlikely. In Halls of Tizun Thane one PC Saya chased a Night Thing/Shadow Dancer (unstoppable demonic killing machine) off into the woods, used up all her Hero Points trying to hurt it, and got stabbed in the chest; with no HP left to soak the damage she was dead when the others found her.
