I crit!
Again, Invincible is doing so well it got two more seasons and the main article I found on that says it's got 19x the viewer base of the average show.

People get exploded into gore every ten minutes on that show.
I almost couldn’t take it. I admit I had to look away for some of it.

I'm not sure I'm not excited. It looks like it's leaning heavily of profanity and graphic violence, which I find off putting. It's not that you can't have a good show with those things in it, but for me a show needs to have other aspects like story and character that make we watch it despite the violence and profanity, where as the trailers I've seen for Vox Machina seem to use it as a selling point.
Honestly I think that, since animated shows for adults are a newer thing, the profanity and violence and such are partially there to assure the audience that they're not watching a kid's show.

For example, when my cousin watched the first episode of Invincible she was surprised that the creator of the Walking Dead had apparently made a kid's show up until the twist.

To be fair Invincible isn't just gore, it's REALLY well written.

I think it's currently one of the best if not the best reviewed series on Rotten Tomatoes as well as being well liked by "regular" people.

Or it's there to stay true to the stream. Those Critical Role %*&#@$ers cuss a lot.
True, I was speaking more about adult animated content in general. From what I understand ever since Covid started several companies have expressed interest in animation for adults.

Sounds like it has lots of language and extreme violence.

So...definitely not something parents will want their kids (and maybe even not teens depending on the parents) watching.

Not really made to appeal to those over 35 (though there will be those that age and older who it WILL appeal to, don't get me wrong, just not the audience they are wanting) as it sounds (the trailer) actually written for kids (but see the above).

My best guess is they are aiming for college age?

Rated M?
Well this 50-year-old guy is looking forward to it. But I think their intended audience is probably teens through early 30-somethings? I'm guess that is likely the demographic that is most into live-play streams. It would be interesting to see the demographics of Critical Roles's fan base.

I read Invincible in comic form a while ago. It's not some huge Marvel or DC title and now look it. I can't imagine the typical viewer of Invincible is enough of a hardcore comic fan to have read the books.

The number of people who watched Arcane who don't play LoL is massive, even in my own household.

Critical Role is on billboards in LA and has Amazon marketing behind it. You might even get an amazon shipment with a smiling Scanlan on it, like a Jack Ryan promo.

Betting against a major release cartoon with violence and cussing that involves a non-Disney owned "niche" IP seems to be a bad bet of late.

I think Castlevania had huge numbers too. And DOTA season 2 just came out. If anything, there seems to be a thirst for this stuff.
