its a great start, I would want better manoeuvers for higher level use... but that is a GREAT start

I even made a thought experement with the base fighter only ever getting d4 or d6 and the battle master gets the upgraded dice.

You need to keep the Champion maneuverless. There has to be a simple martial(Champion) and simple caster(Warlock) for those people who don't like or want complexity, and I've run into a number of them over the years.

And I the same. And most were beginners. And frankly, 2 or 3 manoeuvers is not the end of the world to understand. It is when you get a few more that the options might seem overwhelming for the beginners. And for those that simply like simplicity, there is still the rogue, thief variant...

Why? Why take away the simple Fighter when you already have a more complex one and can add more complex subclasses? It makes no sense.
