WotC D&D Products Delayed Including Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel

WotC has announced that Journeys Through The Radiant Citadel will be delayed a month from June 21st to July 19th. The D&D Beyond version is being similarly delayed.

Due to production issues, two upcoming D&D products have been delayed:

Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel (digital & in stores) arrives July 19

Campaign Case: Terrain arrives August 16

Campaign Case: Creatures (7/19) & Spelljammer: Adventures in Space (8/16) are unaffected.

I don't know how far we want to take this thread, because shortages of paper for D&D books is very quickly linked to real-world events, and this discussion can rapidly develop into a rule-breaking thread. Mentioning a grain shortage might just be within the rules (?), but explaining the reasons for it might not be. Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun, as they say.

A magical component shortage could be a decent hook for an adventure. Imagine a bat guano shortage, "The Day the Fireballs Stopped."

Oh, damn - that may be my fault. The DM at a Con a few years warned me about that when my 6 Int fighter used a Wish from a Ring of Three Wishes to inadvertantly wish away all bats (it was an OD&D game, suspect the adventure was Caverns of Thracia).

Interesting Radiant is being affected, but not Spelljammer.

Luckily it didn't specify that Vampires were included with that, but now Vampires are hiding more than ever.

And yet there was a paper mill in BC Canada that closed in the last year citing "decreased paper demand" as the reason for closure. Something fishy there...

Nope. There is a decrease for paper product demands. The problem is that most paper mills were set on news paper paper production. To craft better paper types, such SC A, SC B or higher, you need substantial investments that are costly and even if you do that, it will only put pressure on an already saturated market with no guarantees of a "quick" payback.

If the demand stabilizes and there is a lack of certain paper types, I am sure that some mills will convert but so far, there is no increase in the overall demand. At least for the long term that is.

I imagine that printer has annoyed all of their existing customers with this move - customers who may or may not come back if/when Amazon finds they can get their boxes printed even cheaper somewhere else. Oh well - that's business, I guess?

I dunno. From what I hear it was crazy insane prices. And even Amazon couldn’t get all they needed. Which I wonder if that furthered the shipping apocalypse?

As much as the shipping apocalypse is due to COVID breaking everything globalization is built off of... the alternative (every country responsible for their own goods and services) is also not conducive for cheap and timely products.
