A question about Fighters and Domains in 1st edition DAD

I've been thinking about the rules for Fighters and Domains in 1st edition ADAD

In 1st edition ADAD the rules for Fighters and Domains say that only A Fighter can create A Domain and that he or she can't do so until he or she is level 9 or higher

But that got me thinking and my thinking is that the rules say that A Fighter can't create A Domain until he or she is level 9 or higher but they don't say that he or she can't earn A Domain before he or she reach's 9th level

My thinking is that this means that A Fighter can acquire A Domain before 9th level but only if someone else creates it and the best, in my opinion, example of that is A Fighter doing a task that was so dangerous that his or her reward is being granted rulership of A Small Domain

My understanding is that, yes, he could be awarded a keep, some land, and work on clearing it before ninth (name) level, but...

Until he hits ninth, no one's heard of him. There's no clout to his name where enough people have heard of him that they want to pack up their lives and move to this area and start over, and if they did, they haven't heard enough of him to be sure he can protect them if they do.

To be honest I'd forgotten that this site has a older editions forum. Sorry. Can I move this to the older editions forum? and if so how do I move this to the older editions forum?
I don't think you can do it yourself. It wouldn't hurt to ask your question there though, it might be seen by more 1st edition experts. I've forgotten most of the stronghold rules.

Yes, I fighter can get a Domain "Freehold" through many ways before 9th level. A fighter could build a castle and clear land of monsters at any time at any level. But won't get the domain "freehold'' benefits: men-at-arms and taxes, until 9th level.

Though, of course, when talking about 1E: The Rules are just Suggestions, do what you want!

I think you could do it and they only thing you wouldn't get before 9th level would be the men at arms.

If you have a liege and the liege gives you the area and he wants you to collect taxes on his behalf then you would do it. If the liege doesn't give you any troops you could go the hireling route until you hit 9th level and the men at arms show up.

If you don't have a liege, you can still build your keep, hire dudes to protect it. If you want to impose taxation on the locals that's a roleplaying opportunity.

Yes, you can found -- or be given -- a domain at any level, but you only gain the name-level benefits (chiefly, followers) upon attaining name-level. This applies to all of the classes; a thief could found a guild at whatever level they wish, but they don't gain automatic followers until they hit name-level.

That’s how I would run it. It’s really just an opportunity for role playing in a different way.
